The Zubat flies up to Soul as Bugsy explains how the Pokemon saved his life...but licking his wounds. Soul is disgusted by the idea, but thanks the Zubat anyway. The Zubat wants his debt repaid by having the human take him in, lamenting that he's tired of his slow life in the Slowpoke Well. However, the Zubat does not want to fight. Soul relents, not minding a non-battler, and hires his rescuer as a delivery Pokemon. The Zubat gives his name, but it's a sound humans can't reproduce. Bugsy says he's been calling the Zubat "Vlad", which the Pokemon doesn't mind. The name sticks. Vlad is a brave natured Zubat, capable of taking hits.
Aurea Juniper offers to send Vlad to Prof. Elm for Soul, encouraging her son to get some rest. Bay and the team demand to stay with their trainer. The parents, Mr. Kurt, and Bugsy leave them. Rune goes to Soul and draws his attention.
Rune wants to confess something, but is scared of Soul's reaction. They ask that Soul not get angry. Confused, he agrees. Rune reveals they knew "that scary human was gonna hurt" Soul. The bed-ridden human is shocked. Rune further reveals that they've been seeing the future, and saw Jinx's death before it happened as well. They feel guilty, wondering if they'd confessed earlier, if things could've been different. They beg Soul not to be upset with them. Soul is far from upset, though. He's fascinated, much to Rune's shock.
