Exactly four years ago today, visiting a restaurant near Sevenoaks as the world was returning to its new normal.

#Paintthesky
Large painting, 24x48 horizontal. Along the bottom in shades of grey and brown, the city skyline is dotted with lights. The sky fills most of the panel, layers of grey, yellow, blue and green melt together. The feeling is relaxed and cool.
Day 21 of #ArtAdventCalendar In the city, the night sky can be quite light, especially on cloudy nights. I painted this sky in layers of yellow, grey, green and blue. Our eyes blend the colours into winter clouds lit by the city.

Painting 36x40, horizontal. Swooping clouds in shades of mauve and golden yellow over dark tree terrain below. The sky is 3/4 of surface. The ground is a strip along the bottom edge. The mood is soft and uplifting.
I love the skies this time of year. The clouds are huge, rising far up into the sky. The colours are cooler but the sun is still warm. Autumn skies are the best!

Paintiang 12x24 horizontal. Colourful sunrise over urban residential rooftops and trees. The sky is yellow and orange and the horizon, pink like catches on the purple-grey skies. The sky above is pale blue and yellow. The mood is quiet but exciting. The day is full of potential.
The sky is my muse. I once painted the sunrise every day for 30 days. After those 30 days, the sun continued to rise. I could have painted forever. Every day is different.

#PaintTheSky #art
Painting, 12x24 horizontal, of the sun rising over an urban neighbourhood. Low flat roof building in the lower centre, dark trees line the horizon, catching the sunlight. House rooftops, flat and peaked, in the extreme foreground at the bottom of the painting. The upper half is the sky. Bright yellow at the centre horizon where the sun has just peeked above the trees. Streaky pink and purple clouds above the sun becoming grey at the top. The grey clouds give way to pale blue and yellow sky behind them. The paint is heavy and textured. The mood is peaceful and quiet but with drama breaking in the sky.
I hardly ever paint the sunrise anymore. I should remedy that. The sky is my muse. It never fails to amaze me.

Square painting of a grey sky with a strip of dark land at the bottom. The sky fades from grey to purple to pale yellow in waves slanting down to the right. The sun is in the upper centre, a white ball with a pale yellow ring and pale short rays reaching out from it.
It's Feb 1st and we're in the thick of winter. Snow, sub-zero temps, grey skies, grey trees, grey buildings. So much grey. I'm encouraged when I see the sun making an effort. Spring arrives in 47 days. Hang in there!

Large painting on lightly textured board. A multi-lane highway heads through farm land and converges at the horizon. The sky is ribbons of orange, pink and yellow. On the right is smooth farm fields edged with trees. On the left is a road of low industrial buildings and a water tower with pine trees growing on top. Two lanes of highway head north. Two lanes head south on the left, and a median of grass is between them.
It's the final day of #JanuArty. Many thanks to @whitneyyoh.bsky.social for putting it together. The theme today is Angle. I should have used a protractor to lay out the angles of this painting but I winged it.
Take Me Home

#CanadianArt #ontheroadagain #paintthesky
Bright orange and pink clouds in a dark blue sky over the skyline of Toronto. The clouds start as horizontal at the horizon the begin to swirl like flame up into the sky.
#JanuArty theme today is curve. The curve of the clouds in this sunset reminded me of a snake. I swayed, almost danced as I painted. "Serpentine Sunset"

Painting, 12x24, horizontal. Rough texture oil paint on wood panel. Sunrise over urban residential street. Rooftops and upper floors of houses and one flat roof commercial building. Dark trees along the horizon. The sun is a band of bright yellow at the horizon, turning into pink, then grey clouds come in streaked with pink. Above the clouds the sky is pale blue and pale yellow.
First painting completed in 2025!

Textured oil painting, 2/3 sky over 1/3 urban neighbourhood. The sky is grey with under layers of green, dark blue and pink showing through in places. The bright yellow sun is showing through on the left side. There is a stripe of bright coral pink at the horizon. The dark horizon is trees and low buildings. Horizontal rows of streetlights are faintly painted from the horizon to the front (bottom of the painting.)
The #JanuArty theme today is #Pink. Those who follow my work know I use a lot of pink so it was hard to chose. I'll go with this one, of a pink sunrise pushing back against dark clouds.
Persistent Pink

#CanadianArt #paintthesky #sunrise
Large textured wood panel. The texture looks like waved emanating from the moon in the centre. The moon is bright white edged with gold. Fingers of gold reach out into the aqua sky around it. The aqua turns to pink at the top and green at the bottom. The feeling is intense. The glaring white moon ripples into the sky.
Day 6 #JanuArty theme is Space. I've only painted near space. This super moon from Nov 13, 2016 was spectacular in it's brightness and the sky around it. I've painted it 3 times. This is the largest.

Large square painting of a sunrise over dark silhouetted trees. The sky is mostly pink with scraped layers of orange, purple and yellow. The sun is a white ball on the right, mid-height. Around the sun is a streaky yellow glow. The edge of the trees against the sky is deep bright blue.
Here's a summer sunrise to warm us up on this dreary wet winter day.

Painting, 12x24 vertical, on textured wood panel. Sun setting behind suburban houses on a snow covered street. The front yard in the lower 1/3 has to bare-branched umbrella trees, a fire hydrant. The snow has purple shadows and reflection of the orange sky and sun. The mood is quiet and calm.
Day 21 of #ArtAdventCalendar
We've finally got snow! Everything is a bit more quiet and the sun makes it all sparkly.
Winter Sunset

#winterart #paintthesky #snow #canadianart
Painting of a hot sunrise, simplified, almost abstract. Dark brown ground at the bottom edge. The sky is bright orange, fading up into paler orange, then green and finally pale blue at the top. The sun is just above the horizon at the bottom, a smear of yellow at the horizon. Further smears of yellow through the oranges and finally incorporating completely at the green level. The painting is made with thin paint over a textured board. The feeling is heat and calm.
Day 20 of #ArtAdventCalendar
We are on Solstice Eve. It's a cold grey day here in Toronto. Here's a summer sunrise to help warm us up.
