Sion, Juno, and Alex looking at a paissa brat, who is waving at them. Juno finds him adorable, despite his odd appearance. After arriving at Camp Cloudtop for the first time, the trio are given the task of finding some stolen books, with the soldiers there suspecting the Vundu being the culprits. A short while after travelling up the path towards the Vundu settlement, they encounter an unusual sight: a small animal being chased by some Vundu hunters. After dispatching the beastmen, the three check to see if the small creature was alright. Alex explains that the creature is a paissa, a simian-like beastkin native to the Sea of Clouds, and that this one was one of the young ones, called a paissa brat. Juno is charmed by the animal, finding him very cute. Sion also finds it rather charming, though Alex always found their stares to be somewhat off-putting. But when Juno talked to the young animal, the trio were surprised to find that he was able to understand what they were saying!

From the in-game description: "Very little is known about these odd creatures that make their homes on the floating islets of the Sea of Clouds. Their wide-eyed stares and erratic motions give the impression that they are in a constant state of agitation. The Vanu Vanu, however, have devised a means of taming the feathered simians, and often fight the paissa for amusement, betting on the results." This particular paissa, while still quite young, lived under extraordinary circumstances; he, of all creatures, was gifted the Echo, which not only granted increased intelligence, but also much more calm demeanor compared to his fellow paissa. Wishing to understand what the people of Camp Cloudtop were saying, he snuck around listening in on conversations, and eventually started "borrowing" books, though he did return them when he was finished. Starting from children's books, the paissa's grasp on common language grew over time, and by the time Juno and the others had met him, the paissa had a good grasp on the common tongue. While unable to verbally communicate, he makes himself understood through gestures and charades. Soon after thanking the Hyuran trio for saving him from a terrible fate at the hands of the Vundu, the animal beckons them to a secluded corner...
The paissa brat has led them to a little nook behind a rock, likely its nest. To the trio's amazement, there are the lost books, stacked neatly against the rock. One of the books are open, implying that the animal was actually reading. With this information, Sion concludes that this paissa brat was the culprit all along. Juno then explains to the animal that he can't just take things from people without permission, and that the books would have to be returned. Alex is amazed that an animal like this was capable of reading in the first place... and a little annoyed at the possibility that a paissa could read better than he can.
The paissa brat gestures towards the books he "borrowed", stacked neatly and in good condition. Upon returning to Camp Cloudtop, Sion explains the situation to the soldier that sent the three adventurers on their task, and the paissa brat returns the books. The soldier is perplexed, but seeing as the paissa is doing no harm and actually returns the books he finishes, he tells the animal that if he wanted to read, he could simply ask and he'll be able to properly borrow one. Before continuing on their journey, Juno tells the other two that she wishes to adopt the paissa brat and take him with them, saying he finds him adorable and that it might be nice to have him travel and experience the world with them, being so smart and all. While Alex is a bit hesitant at first, he and Sion agree, which made the beastkin joyful that his life was no longer contained within the Sea of Clouds. Juno then gives him the name "Pookie", explaining it was the first word that popped into her mind. Happy with his new name, Pookie became a part of the party. Aside from his quirks of high intelligence and lack of verbal communication, Pookie is also a voracious eater, possibly equal to Sion and Polopo at their hungriest. Some of his capabilities are also rather... strange and absurd, reminiscent of some of Hildibrand Manderville's antics. Still, Pookie has become a sort of mascot for the Sunrise free company, beloved by all members.

Sion, Juno, and Alex meet a peculiar paissa brat. It turned out this young animal was quite intelligent, being able to read and understand common language. After returning some "borrowed" books, Juno adopts him, and names him Pookie.
