Palestine in the Eye Directed by Mustafa Abu Ali, this film is a tribute to Hani Jawharieh — Palestinian resistance filmmaker and founding member of the PLO Film Unit — who was killed in 1976 while filming combat in Lebanon. The documentary weaves together Jawharieh’s own footage, including the final frames he shot before his death, alongside interviews with his widow and comrades. 2. Palestinian Women Directed by Jocelyne Saab, this film amplifies the often-forgotten voices of Palestinian women* in the context of the Palestinian liberation struggle. Originally commissioned by Antenne 2 (France), the film was censored in the editing stage and never aired. The version we’re showing was specially restored for a retrospective by Cinemateca Portuguesa’s conservation centre. After the screenings, we’ll host a discussion on the cinema of the Palestinian revolution, the militant image, and what embeddedness in struggle might look like for filmmakers and artists today. 📣 The event will be held in English. 🍽 Vegan food will be provided for a small donation.

Nach den Vorführungen findet eine Diskussion über das Kino der palästinensischen Revolution, das militante Bild und die Frage statt, wie die Verankerung im Kampf für Filmemacher und Künstler heute aussehen könnte. 📣 Die Veranstaltung findet in englischer Sprache statt. 🍽 Gegen eine kleine Spende wird veganes Essen angeboten.

We will be showing the documentary film ‘Let it bring hope: Bohemians v Palestine’ (language: English / 2024), which tells the extraordinary story of the football match between the Irish football club Bohemians FC @bfcdublin and the Palestinian national football team. From around 7.30pm, we will be joined live by players, some from the West Bank. They will tell us about their personal experiences and we will discuss how sport can be practised as a form of resistance. We will also talk about the problems and challenges they have had to overcome since the film was made. There will be space to share and get to know each other. Wir zeigen den Dokumentarfilm „Let it bring hope: Bohemians v Palestine“ (Sprache: englisch / 2024), welcher die außergewöhnliche Geschichte der Fußballbegegnung zwischen dem irischen Fußballklub Bohemians FC @bfcdublin und des palästinensischen Fußball-Nationalteams. Ab ca. 19:30 Uhr werden uns Spieler:innen live zugeschaltet sein, einige aus der West Bank. Sie schildern uns ihre persönlichen Erfahrungen und wir diskutieren wie Sport als eine Form des Widerstandes praktiziert werden kann. Darüber hinaus geht es um Probleme und Herausforderungen die sie, seit der Entstehung des Films, bewältigten mussten. Es wird Raum zum gemeinsamen Austausch und Kennenlernen geben.
