Namibia’s maths whizzes hit Botswana for African olympiad Namibia’s national mathematics team is currently in Gaborone, Botswana, to represent the country at the 2025 Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad (Pamo). The six-member team, selected as the overall winners of the Namibian Mathematics Olympiad, will be taking part in the event that started on 11 June and will run until Wednesday. The pupils are set to compete against some young problem-solvers from all over the continent. Their journey to Pamo follows the successful completion of the first round of the Namibian Mathematics Olympiad in May, where over 6 400 pupils countrywide participated. Organised by the National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST), the Olympiad aims to cultivate mathematical talent and inspire excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (Stem). “These brilliant young minds remind us all that the sky is not the limit, it’s just the beginning,” NCRST chief executive Anicia Peters said during the team’s send-off last week. According to NCRST, the team’s participation is a proud moment for Namibia as the pupils step onto a continental platform to showcase their skills and put the country’s growing pool of Stem talent on the map.
