#paperday #Extragalactic What determines whether a galaxy can become a jellyfish galaxy? Thanks to new Meerkat data, we now propose that this may be due to a combination of supersonic orbits and interactions with the magnetic field of the galaxy cluster. More at arxiv.org/abs/2602.21821
#paperday! RR Lyrae stars are a common, dependable Population II distance indicator, and provide an independent tracer of early star formation. We test the feasability of RR Lyrae research with archival JWST data using nearby dwarf galaxy WLM! 🔭

We used a physics informed Field Level Inference method applied to a large Quasar sample to reconstruct the inicial conditions, matter field and dynamics of the Universe at the largest scales!

Happy paper day to those who celebrate.😘

Well, I didn't think I'd say this again 8 years after leaving academia but...it's #PaperDay! 🧪🔭🧬
Last year I participated in a workshop about communicating the search for life and then I helped write a report about our discussions. You can read it here:

Let’s make paper meaningful. Read more. Waste less.

Overview over large- and small-scale data for NGC4593, ranging from the full galaxy (PanSTARRS) to ESO VLT MUSE in Wide- and Narrow-Field Mode, HST WFC3, to ALMA high-res gas data.
Yesterday was 🔭 #PaperDay! How do supermassive #BlackHoles get the gas that makes them grow to huge masses? This gas ultimately has to come from their host galaxy, but has to lose 99.9% of its angular momentum in the process. So how does that work?

🚀 #PaperDay! Excited to share my new results on probing the impact of the cosmic web on galaxy clusters, using the first Euclid data release (Q1)! 🌌🔭 arxiv.org/abs/2503.15332 #Euclid #CosmicWeb #GalaxyClusters
#paperday: Investigating AGN feedback in Hα-luminous galaxy clusters, by Fornasiero+ (a graduated master's student I had the pleasure of supervising!). This Chandra+JVLA analysis of A2009 completes the in-depth study of a list of high X-ray flux & Hα luminosity clusters, see arxiv.org/abs/2503.07781
#paperday In the quest to breach the new z>15 redshift frontier, we searched for faint, previously missed dropout galaxies in JWST CEERS data. The objects we found may be either z<3 dwarf galaxies with a puzzling, extreme dust content or dust-free z>15 objects. Read more: arxiv.org/abs/2502.02637

✨🔭🧪 with STScI postdoc Jimena Rodriguez! where we search for dusty star clusters in 19 nearby galaxies using the PHANGS-JWST Treasury Survey, and find a very short timescale (<3 Myr) for the dust embedded phase. Fig 17 & 18 are my favs!
On ApJ now so technically an #extragalactic #astro #paperday!
We deconvolve survey selection from evolution of the low-mass SFS at z<0.2. This constrains models of dwarf assembly, and signals how care is needed to use low-z galaxies to contextualize the LV/LG.

Some things I've been doing recently are about #ReinforcementLearning in #cybersecurity and network security. Like working with DSTL's #YawningTitan see here: scholar.google.com/citations?vi... (work presented at CAMLIS 2023) #paperday
#Paperday New paper accepted by A&A on the mass measurements and comparisons for eROSITA clusters is available at arxiv.org/abs/2411.09735. One result that might be particularly useful is the spatially resolved mass-velocity dispersion relation. A thread summarizes the paper.
GASP jellyfish galaxies. More at https://web.oapd.inaf.it/gasp/
#paperday We have used the gas trails of jellyfish galaxies to trace the ICM small-scale motions. We find a turbulence-like spectrum extending below the expected ICM dissipation scale, suggesting that the ICM viscosity is less than 10% of the Spitzer value. More at arxiv.org/abs/2411.07034
#PaperDay: I'm thrilled to finally be able to share our investigation into using the Australian SKA Pathfinder radio telescope to study the evolution of supernovae.
