The Borders of My Mind

I am nothing without the lure of a dwindling track
compressed by the sprawling of thistle, thorn and fern,
discovering secrets responsible persons lack
by limited compass and minimal self-concern.

Should someone be seeking escape from the life they've led
or someone get lost (as ostensibly I am now),
should others pay heed to their hearts, forsaking heads,
by vanishing ways are our destinies thrown in doubt.

When you pause to consider the likelihood of rain,
I will pass into places where nothing may fall nor shine.
You tether yourself to an innocent life mundane,
I wander untamed, possibilities thence combine,
persisting innocuous factors could explain
the menace still stayed near the borders of my mind.

Today, I'm guest poet at #PatriciasPen (thanks @pmosbornewriter.bsky.social!), where I talk about my new book The Breadcrumb Trail and about my writing in general.
Read here:

And here's one of two new poems from the book that are also featured.
