It was experimenting with the eyes.
Round pupils are more expressive, but since this is a sci-comm comic I modified them a bit later.

Before he had an human mouth cos it was easier to make expressions for him.
But later I decided to remove it cos in comic characters mention Pierre's beak & radula
...And how they will be able to do it if he has none🤣
