Thank you for connecting me with these reading groups, I think we met through #Pilgrimagetogether. I enjoy dipping in and out and sharing! Nice to be able to celebrate Thanksgiving here too as an American abroad.
HEIMWEH is homesickness in German.
Reminded of Dorothy Richardson's Pilgrimage & English cultural ties/admiration of the principalities that were united into the German Empire in 1871. The latter's rapidly growing naval prowess strained this relationship too.

Scope and Contents Handwritten and typed complete text, 241p. Includes envelope addressed to John Himsdale Thompson, pasted onto the inside back panel of the portfolio which once housed the manuscript. Sold to John Hinsdale Thompson of Grosse Point, Michigan by the author. The title page bears her inscription to Thompson. Originally titled "Amabel"; title page has this title crossed out with "Dawn's Left Hand" written above. First published by Duckworth of London in 1931.
Here's a little shocker for #PilgrimageTogether fans, straight from the Special Collections catalog at U. Tulsa, which holds the original manuscript of Dawn's Left Hand, chapter-volume 10 of Dorothy Richardson's Pilgrimage.
Her original title of the book was ... Amabel.

#PilgrimageTogether was almost all of 2022!!!! (Just checked my schedule tucked into the first volume.)
"Even here in this dim carriage, with disgrace ahead, she felt that there was freedom somewhere at hand. Whatever happened she would hold to that."

Indeed! #PilgrimageTogether was one of my most rewarding reading experiences & wouldn’t have been the same w/out finishing. There were many moments I just let the words wash over me & trusted that it would all come together🤣 & it absolutely was worth it!
@joiedevivre9.bsky.social should be able to offer some thoughts on this as she was involved in (and possibly co-ordinated?) a group read of PILGRIMAGE a couple of years ago. There was a hashtag on Twitter, too. #PilgrimageTogether, I think?
👀 💛 Very cool!

If you've never had the good fortune to live your way through Dorothy Richardson's vast stream-of-existence novel of novels, there'll be a chance to do so with company in 2026, w/ a spiffy new ltd. edition. THRILLING news! My own Viragos are getting real pulpy. #PilgrimageTogether #FridayReads
This is VERY EXCITING NEWS! 🎉 #PilgrimageTogether
#PilgrimageTogether returns in 2026!
I've just contracted with Dorothy Richardson's estate to publish a limited edition of her 2,000-page, 13 volume modernist masterpiece, Pilgrimage, in the US. It will be available as a set by September 2025.
"She had explicitly wanted a long read. A narrative to cut life with, treating it as a very different place to go to (to go into) regularly, temporarily, as a way of leaving, but without ever really leaving, her own life." Brings me back to #PilgrimageTogether

If you're interested in joining another #PilgrimageTogether group read, please like this post to let Olivia Barber, the new editorial director at Virago Modern Classics, know that we want to see the full set of Dorothy Richardson's Pilgrimage brought back to print in the U.S.
I’m here for every book that mentions Dorothy Richardson in its intro! #NYRBWomen24 #PilgrimageTogether
Well, feel free to take a peak - we don't only post quotes - have had some heady, passionate discussions in the past #YearOfVirginiaWoolf !
Love the zoom idea but this is a slender book to be read slowly over 3-4 weeks. Did you read #PilgrimageTogether - there was a zoom at the end of each book.
So glad that you are here! My friend & I started reading it aloud to one another many years ago now, but we were so very delighted to learn about #Pilgrimagetogether!! I did attend some of the online discussions. Really great!
A group of us read Dorothy Richardson's Pilgrimage last year. There's a hashtag on that other website #Pilgrimagetogether where we posted our thoughts throughout the year. And there is a fabulous website with untold treasures--contemporary reviews, etc. put together by @neglectedbooks.bsky.social
