Scar Head Canons. All Pokemon-inflicted since the shadow Pokemon go into a frenzy and attack their own trainer. It often happens to Wes from trying to purify/rehabilitate them.
She's (Rui) definitely an enabler, but still gets upset when he's (Wes) legitimately hurt. He's (Wes) super shy showing much of any skin and especially around her (Rui).

My head canons about how the SNAGEM machine works and about Wes. We know the orange wire connects throughout the machine, particularly from the gem on the chest all the way to the hand. When we purify pokemon, we open their closed heart, I think a lot about pokemon are connected via heart.
So I think the SNAGEM machine connects the users heart to the target pokemon, overriding their current connection with their original trainer. This energy is then transferred to the user's Pokeball, enabling the catch. This, in my opinion, is also why Team Snagem chose Wes to handle the SNAG machine.
Wes obviously has a deep connection and love for Pokemon. (both his Umbreon and Espeon evolve from high friendship.) It likely makes it easier for the machine to connect his heart's with the target's. (and explains why he'd inevitably betray them and go against them.)
