Amazing talk on purinergic signaling by Prof Gary Stacey at University of Missouri, Columbia

Purinergic signaling in plants: More important than generally realized.

Gary Stacey

Division of Plant Science and Technology

I hope to convince each of you today of two facts:

1. That purinergic signaling is as central to plant growth and development as photosynthesis, auxin, cytokinin, or the myriad of other features that we commonly associate as critical functions in plants.

2. That many of you, indeed most, are likely unaware that you are studying purinergic signaling, especially those of you studying any type of stress response in plants.

From LUCA to Lily: 12 perspectives for teaching about plants | Plant Science Today The other day I was talking to a friend about the need to demystify plants, so that teachers feel as confident in their teaching of plant biology as they do about animal biology. I wonder if sometimes...

Lots of talk about teaching yesterday at #PlantBio2025.
A few resources that might be useful.

2) I believe most of the established folks who come to #PlantBio2025 come to support the community, not to bathe in glory. It's an inclusive conference and people want to reach across geography, career-level, institution type and research focus to strengthen plant science and scientists.

Couple random thoughts on the last day of #PlantBio2025.
1) Sitting in a room full of people all focused on hearing the details of plant cell signaling feels SO good. I guess that's why people go to Comic-Con, so they are surrounded by like-minded nerds, right? But we're Plant-Con nerds & I love us.
