A new strain of transgenic Platynereis. At this stage, this is still a great joy. Hopefully, several more will follow soon ...
I hope other teams are making progress with this notoriously resistant species. Let's make Platy the marine D melanogaster ! #platynereis #wormwednesday #evodevo

Multifaceted conserved functions of Notch during post-embryonic neurogenesis in the annelid Platynereis - EMBO Reports Notch signaling is an evolutionarily conserved pathway known to orchestrate neurogenesis by regulating the transition from progenitors to neurons and glia, and by directing neurite outgrowth and axon ...

I am thrilled to share with you our new paper published in @emboreports.org - Led by our fantastic PhD student Loïc Bideau with the help of many lab members.

Excited to welcome @mariacocurullo.bsky.social to the Tessmar-Raible lab, who secured a prestigious #MSCA Postdoctoral fellowship to explore how monthly timing shapes brain #plasticity in Platynereis dumerilii — and how light pollution at night may disrupt it.

The origin of diaplectic waves (perpendicular direction) is most mysterious. To study this, we turned to the 1-2 day #Platynereis larva -> @jekely.biologists.social.ap.brid.gy 's favourite organism!
The larva exhibits a robust metachronal wave around its equator (cilia beat in/out of the page)

Image of an adult Platynereis worm. The 24-hpf trochophore larva swims in a left handed helical path using cilia, which beat with a characteristic pattern. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image of a 24hpf larva spliced with a schematic showing axis orientation and swimming direction. A single larva held by a micropipette. The ciliary band comprises large, distinct multiciliated cells distributed regularly around the prototroch band.

New preprint from Rebecca's PhD! did you know that the ciliary band metachronal wave in #Platynereis is a series of tiny waves within each multiciliated cell! What happens if you ablate some cilia?? 🌊😱
Cool #cilia collab w/ @jekely.biologists.social.ap.brid.gy!

Great to ses that study out in MBE. This is the result of an effective collaboration with @stemdevevo.bsky.social. Aurore Vullien (joint PhD student) et al has studied the evolution and role of ROS in metazoan regeneration using #nematostella and #platynereis. Congrats to all. Highlights below.

#Platynereis bristleworms grow by adding new segments at their posterior ends using a #StemCell zone. But what happens if the zone is cut off? First authors Alexander Stockinger and Leonie Adelmann @univie.ac.at used a time-resolved #SingleCell #scRNAseq approach to tackle this question... (2/7)
