Professor Oak prepares to enshrine us into the Pokémon Hall of Fame for becoming Champion.
As your team is registered into the Hall of Fame, each Pokémon is shown, and I took a screenshot of Venusaur as a special shout-out. Bulbasaur was my starter for this run (much like he was all the way back in 1998 when I played Red Version for the first time), and except for a couple major battles, he was by my side for almost every step of my journey, which has always been my mentality with my starter.
After 66 hours and 46 minutes of playtime, with 77 Pokémon caught out of 138 seen, I've completed another Gen 1 journey, after a very long time away.

As Pokémon League Champion, we get enshrined into the Hall of Fame and the credits roll!

Once again, our Rival was one step ahead of us, defeating the Elite Four to become Pokémon League Champion before we even arrived. But a duel between rivals was the only appropriate way to end this playthrough.
Your Rival's final team is a full lineup of six Pokémon in the level 59-65 range. He will always have Pidgeot, Alakazam, and Rhydon, with the other three depending your choice of starter at the beginning of the game. In my case, having picked Bulbasaur, the Rival brought along Exeggutor, Gyarados, and Charizard. Despite a 20-level differential, my Starmie got the jump on Charizard, survived a Slash attack, and downed Charizard after two Surfs to win the match for me.
"NO! That can't be!" Our Rival does not take his defeat very well.
And after losing to us, our Rival has to listen to Professor Oak (his uncle, BTW) not only congratulate us, but basically berate him. Feel kinda bad for the guy. He may be a cocky SOB but he's not really a bad guy.
Our Rival beat the Elite Four before us! But one final ass-kicking (culminating with my Starmie KO'ing his Charizard from 20 levels down) does the job, and we've finally become the Pokémon League Champion! #retro #retrogaming #gaming #pokemon #pokemon30
Lorelei, Ice-Type specialist. While Ice Pokémon are known for being weak to Fire, you're better off bringing an Electric against Lorelei, given most of her team shares the Water type, although her Jynx makes a prime target to be fried. Lapras is her best Pokémon and can definitely cause trouble with its Confuse Ray and Body Slam.
Bruno, Fighting-Type specialist. Fighting Pokémon got the short end of the stick in Gen 1, and poor Bruno ends up being a breather boss (to quote TV Tropes) if you've brought Water and Psychic Pokémon (which you most likely have). He's got both Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee, as well as the intimidating Machamp, to go with a double dose of Onix, but they don't do enough to make Bruno challenging.
Agatha, Ghost-Type specialist. This old crone could more accurately be designated a Poison-Type trainer, but Koga already claimed that role. She COULD be a challenge, but between Ghost-Types being victims to programming errors as well as non-existent good super-effective moves, as well as her AI making questionable choices (such as using Dream Eater on a Pokémon that's awake), Agatha ends up not being that much of an issue, especially if you bring along a fast Psychic-Type to take advantage of her team entirely sharing the Poison-Type.
Lance, Dragon-Type specialist. Dragon-type Pokémon are just as limited as Ghosts in Gen 1, having exactly one evolutionary line and non-existent super-effective moves (Dragon Rage always does a fixed amount of damage). If you've got an Ice-Type like Articuno, this is the match to bring it out, as all of Lance's team except Gyarados will be vulnerable. Of course, you can also screw around and take advantage of the Gen 1 AI by sending something like a Poison-Type against Lance's dragons, like his Dragonite, and lock them into using Agility and Barrier (Psychic-Type moves that would be super-effective except they don't cause any damage), effectively preventing them from ever hitting you. Either way, beat Lance and you've conquered the Elite Four! However, you haven't won yet.
Back to Pokémon Blue for the Pokémon League! The Elite Four are a gauntlet that must be completed in one go, and any defeat sends you back to the start. However, once you win, it turns out you have one last opponent... #retro #retrogaming #gaming #pokemon #pokemon30
