What's next? The Homeland Security appropriations bill allots $64 billion more for DHS and $10 billion more for ICE. With the bill passing the House, it now moves to the Senate, who has to pass the measure by January 30th to avoid another government shutdown. You have a week left to urge your Senators to vote NO.

Eight Democrats Cave to the GOP’S Budget. Don't let them forget. On Sunday, November 9th, after 40 days of government shutdown, 8 Democratic senators buckled and agreed to a “compromise” bill to reopen the government. While it reinstates funding for SNAP and guarantees backpay for furloughed federal workers, the primary issue that Democrats fought for, extending ACA healthcare subsidies, was not secured. The only concession by the GOP is a guaranteed vote on them in December. The bill only funds the government through January 30th, 2026. Given that Congress is Republican majority across the board, it is highly unlikely the subsidies will pass, rendering the Democrats’ stand completely fruitless. Make sure that come their time for re-election, they are primaried out of the race. Jeanne Shaheen - New Hampshire - Retiring in 2026 Maggie Hassan - New Hampshire - Re-election in 2030 Dick Durbin - Illinois - Retiring in 2026 Tim Kaine - Virginia - Re-election 2030 Angus King - Maine - Re-election in 2030 Jacky Rosen - Nevada - Re-election in 2030 Catherine Cortez Masto - Nevada - Re-election in 2028 John Fetterman - Pennsylvania - Re-election in 2028 Chuck Schumer is just as guilty as he is reported to have orchestrated the deal. He is up for re-election in 2028.
What now? The bill has yet to pass, as the Senate has a max of 30 hours to debates any amendments to the bill and then vote to pass. Voting began at 6pm on Monday. If it passes, it goes to the House of Reps. They will need to vote to approve the bill or offer amendments. If any amendments are made, it will go back to the Senate to vote. Given the Republican majority in the House, the bill will likely not face issues passing. It will then go to Trump’s desk.
What can you do? Call your House Reps and urge them to not vote for the bill unless amendments are made that extend the ACA subsidies and restore SNAP and Medicaid funding cut in the Big, Beautiful Bill. Contact Democratic Reps and demand they do not cave as the Senators did. Urge them to offer up amendments that support Americans and revert Trump’s policies. Even moreso, contact Republican Reps and demand they do the same. While it may seen fruitless, you deserve to have your voice heard and the slew of Democratic wins last week may make them more susceptible to pressure. Use the 5Calls app or call the Capitol Switchboard at 202.224.3121 to be connected to your Reps.
Don't let these Democratic Senators get away with this. Healthcare premiums will skyrocket if the subsidies aren't extended, and millions of Americans will suffer if the cuts to SNAP and Medicaid aren't overturned.
Do not let them rest.

California. San Francisco Recall Election. This is an election to recall San Francisco’s District 4 Supervisor, Joel Engardio. Organizers of the recall effort cited Engardio’s support for Proposition K as the reason for his recall. Proposition K is a measure that passed on November 5th, 2024. It allows the City to use the Upper Great Highway as a recreational space, permanently closing it to private motor vehicles. They argued that it would make District 4 neighborhoods less safe due to an increase in traffic congestions and travel times. Voters will need to decide between Yes or No on the ballot. If the recall is approved, the mayor will appoint someone to represent the district until the City’s next election in 2026. Florida. City of Ocala Special Election. Residents of the city of Ocala, FL will be voting to fill the offices of mayor and City Council Districts 1, 3, and 5. Incumbent Ben Marciano will be going against Zachary “Arbor” Feliciano for mayor. In District 3, incumbent Jay Musleh will be facing against Mark W. Clark and TamBoura Jenkins.
