1970s #MLB hats #PolyesterRankings #1: Combine the most interesting hat design (three color "pinwheel") with the greatest logo in sports history (yes, it is an M-e-b) and the Montreal #Expos win this one going away!

1970s #MLB hats #PolyesterRankings #2: From 1973-79, the #Padres went full-time with the "modified" bell hats that featured the yellow "bell" restricted to the front panels. The brown & yellow colorway is just pure '70s.

1970s #MLB hats #PolyesterRankings #3: The #Brewers were already onto something when they added the yellow front panel to their road uniforms, but adding the genius "mb" ball & glove logo in 1978 took it to a whole new level of awesome.

1970s #MLB hats #PolyesterRankings #4: Several teams introduced 19th century-style pillbox hats to celebrate the National League's centennial in 1976. The #Pirates wore the #Unicorn mustard pillbox for the entire season (and then bright yellow & black versions for the next decade).

1970s #MLB hats #PolyesterRankings #5: The #Padres introduced the first "bell" hats as home Sunday alternates for the 1972 season. These #Unicorn hats were so special that I call them the "Snowflake" hat as they were so hard to produce that no two were alike.

1970s #MLB hats #PolyesterRankings #6: In 1975, the #Orioles introduced orange polyester pullover alternate jerseys. And, for the first two seasons, they wore this amazing orange front hat with those jerseys.

1970s #MLB hats #PolyesterRankings #7: The #Braves 1972 rebrand brought brighter (America's team?) colors, groovy fonts, and one of the most '70s hat logos... the "lower case a." And it really pops against the white front on the blue hat.

1970s #MLB hats #PolyesterRankings #8: The #Phillies started their rebrand midway through the 1970 season, updating the P logo to this wonderfully '70s design. A stylized P with a "baseball" in the center, sitting on a varying shade of red/maroon.

1970s #MLB hats #PolyesterRankings #9: Starting in 1977, the #Pirates wore both black and bright yellow versions of the throwback pillbox hat. But, the "We Are Family" 1979 championship team took it up a notch with the addition of Stargell Stars.

1970s #MLB hats #PolyesterRankings #10: The Toronto #BlueJays entered the American League in 1977 with this two-toned beauty. Blue hat with white front, featuring a bird in a ball, wearing a maple leaf.

1970s #MLB hats #PolyesterRankings #11: The "caveman" C logo arrived in #Cleveland for the 1973 season. From 1975-78, the hat featured a navy crown with red bill. I have no idea why this hat was not used for the recent team rebrand.

1970s #MLB hats #PolyesterRankings #12: The original 1977 #Mariners brought with them the pitchfork M. The yellow logo against the blue hat was a fabulous late '70s look.

1970s #MLB hats #PolyesterRankings #13: The #OaklandA's iconic Kelly green and Fort Knox gold (aka yellow) hats were as bright and colorful as the "Dynastic, Bombastic, Fantastic" Swingin' A's teams of the 1970s.

1970s #MLB hats #PolyesterRankings #14: The #Whitesox wore several awesome hats during the '70s & '80s, but it was the #Unicorn 1976 white top hats that were only worn for one road trip (during the first season under Bill Veeck) before being scrapped.

1970s #MLB hats #PolyesterRankings #15: Not quite a "pinwheel" hat, the new #Orioles tri-color hats for 1975 and beyond featured black in the back, white on the front, and an orange bill. Plus, the classic smiling bird logo.

1970s #MLB hats #PolyesterRankings #16: The contrasting styles of the 1972-up #Tigers home and away uniforms are mirrored in the Old English D on their hats. The away hat, featuring the super-sized orange D with white outline, is my favorite.

1970s #MLB hats #PolyesterRankings #18: The #Brewers introduced the yellow front panel on their traditional blue hats with the road #PowderBlue uniforms starting in 1974. The block M is classic, but you may see a different Milwaukee hat logo later in this countdown 😎
