The closest Cathedral to me is Portsmouth Cathedral. Portsmouth Cathedral was built in 1180 AD and paid for my a local wealthy Norman merchant. It has a very interesting history! In 1449 AD the Bishop of Chichester was murdered in Portsmouth by English Navy sailors so the cathedral was closed for some time and the people of Portsmouth were excommunicated by the Catholic church. Of course the Cathedral along with all the other Norman Cathedrals became Protestant. The Cathedral was built in the Germanic style and Romanesque style of architecture. The Cathedral is just a short walk from the closest beach at the Hot Walls in the heart of old Portsmouth
