"STEP 3: DEFINE YOUR PURPOSE & GOALS!"
"February 2024 -
Pride at the Pier became a 501c3 non-profit organization with the help of our friends @ The Feminist Uprising. Our social media was growing, as was the focus area. We regularly reported anti-LGBTQ activity for greater Orange County. Nationally, the tragic hate crime of LGBTQ child Nex Benedict prompted thousands of gatherings. We hosted one such vigil with a unifying social response. The mission became clear: EDUCATE, CONNECT & EMPOWER our local LGBTQ allies and community." At the end, a drawn red heart emoji, over a simple drawing of two figures hugging amongst lit candles.
A zine page that, underneath a line drawing (with a blue sky and green trees) of the California state capitol building, reads:
"STEP 4: THINK BIGGER!"
"May 2024, Sacramento; AB 1955 SAFETY ACT was presented to the legislative Education Committee. This bill would prevent forced outing for schools in CA, where these trans-descriminatory policies were spreading like weeds around OC school districts. You bet your ass we were there! Donations got us there! It's amazing what can be achieved with community support.
(IT PASSED)" and a drawing of a green check mark.
A zine page that reads:
"STEP 5: GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY!"
"Over a year of activism, travel, education, and good faith conversations led us to culminate talents and experiences into developing our biggest endeavor yet ... a FULLY QUEER OC Voter Guide!!"
A drawing of two hands reaching out for the blue and yellow voter guide, which reads helpfully on its cover: "VOTING IS SO GAY"
The text continues:
"+30 volunteers, +100 races, +200 candidates, +1000 research hours, and over +10,000 guides distributed has been our largest accomplishment ..."
Pride at the Pier stands firm on our values of intersectional justice, solidarity, education, community building, accountability, and resilience.
