Uma R. Chatterjee, M.S., MHPS is an award-winning neuroscientist, science communicator, & mental health advocate. Uma earned her M.S. in Neuroscience from the UTexas-Dallas, & is currently a Neuroscience Ph.D. student & NIH TL1 Predoctoral Fellow studying the neurobiology of OCD at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Uma’s neurobiology research, MHPS practice, & advocacy are all informed by her lived experience with lifelong mental illness (OCD, PTSD, depression, anxiety, bulimia), cancer, chronic illnesses, and disabilities.

While science often sees Uma’s lived experiences as a glitch, her embracing lived experience is truly her superpower that drives her science. Her work as a scientist stands for the active inclusion and representation of fellow scientists with illnesses and disabilities in research. Her survivorship serves as the bedrock of her advocacy, carried out through her work as a globally-invited public speaker, science communicator, and podcast host of ‘A Chat with Uma.
