New justice minister Wise Immanuel promises to pass progressive laws
NEWLY appointed justice minister Wise Immanuel has promised to pass progressive laws that will help resolve the socio-economic challenges Namibia is faced with.
Immanuel was appointed as minister on Saturday afternoon by president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
His appointment was announced alongside new Cabinet ministers a day after Nandi-Ndaitwah was inaugurated as Namibia’s fifth president.
Immanuel (43) says the appointment is nothing but a call to duty.
“What is expected of me is to self-apply and to make sure that as I enter the ministry, I go in and do a situational analysis, identify where there are gaps, and propose interventions. I will ensure that laws are passed and communicated to the public for the good of everyone.
“That would then require that I apply myself 24/7. I must say the appointment came as a surprise, because I live by day, and I don’t expect any new day to offer anything. I move by the progression of the day. I am excited and looking forward to the assignment that lies ahead,” he says.
Immanuel previously served as a leadership development officer at the University of Namibia and as company secretary at the Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund.
