We have credible information that the Alsi Resort has signed a contract with DHS to house ICE agents in Waldport. This has NOT yet come before the council — which means NOW is the moment to influence their stance before anything becomes official. We need everyone — Waldport residents, Oregonians, and out-of-state supporters — to flood the City with comments. HOW TO TAKE ACTION (30 seconds) Email comments to:  recorder@waldport.org Deadline for the December 10th Council Meeting:  1:30 PM, Wednesday, December 10th ICE HAS NO BUSINESS IN WALDPORT In your message, tell the City Council that you expect them to: 1.  Make a public statement opposing ICE on the Oregon Coast. Join the rest of the coastal communities who are standing firmly against ICE presence and the harm it brings. 2.  Commit to not approving any Special Use Permits — should the Alsi or anyone else file one related to ICE housing. 3.  Closely monitor the Alsi Resort and cite any zoning or code violations immediately to prevent DHS or ICE from gaining a foothold here.  WHAT TO SAY (suggested language - please use your own words if possible). "I urge the Waldport City Council to publicly oppose ICE presence on the Oregon Coast, decline any potential special use permits connected to ICE housing, and actively enforce zoning and code restrictions at the Alsi Resort. If ICE is allowed to house agents in Waldport, I will boycott the city and encourage others to do the same. ICE has no business in Waldport."  WHY THIS MATTERS ICE housing in Waldport would damage our safety, our values, and our reputation as a welcoming coastal community. SHOW UP TO CITY COUNCIL TO PROTECT OUR BARRIO! DEC 1 ON NOVEMBER 24TH OVER 200 PEOPLE SHOWED UP TO DEMAND AN EMERGENCY DECLARATION DUE TO ICE DRIVEN TERROR IN SALEM. The City Council needs to hear from us again. They MUST declare a state of emergency and invest at least s300,000 in emergency funds for affected families in our city.

A declaration of emergency must come with material investments for impacted families. When a loved one is detained or derported, families experience economic hardship due to the loss of income, trauma and toxic stress. Impacted families also need funds to access legal support, a fundamental constitutional right, that is continuously being denied to migrant people! At least %20 percent of Salem's population is directly connected to migrants, $300k is just the start to ensure all impacted families have access to resources.

Ways to participate: In person testimony. The City Council will have a sign-up sheet where people will be placed on a list to speak. 6-E is the agenda item we are speaking on. Call in testimony To sign up to provide online comment at the Salem City Council meeting go to https://www.cityofsalem.net, between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm on the day of the meeting. Once you’ve signed up, you will receive and email with instructions how to join the zoom meeting.

Sample Testimony: Introduce yourself and your ward (the neighborhood where you live or work.) Share why this issue matters to you. “I am here because my family, my neighbor or friends are affected by…” You can share a personal story. Connect your story to our collective demands. Why do these demands matter to you? Why are they important. Close out by demanding that you want to see this change. It is urgent that the city of Salem implement these changes.
