I wear sunglasses in the grocery store! πŸ’ͺ🏻 As an #Autistic it helps sensory issues. Once an old man demanded a reason harassing me. With a big grin I said "I'm blind!" and began strolling closely as if we were pals and I was Bugs Bunny. He got scared and left mumbling curses! 🀣 #ProudlyAutistic

Photo of me, a tan trim tall muscular Caucasian masculine non-binary person. I am smiling confidently with my head tilted up and to a little of a side angle. There is a set of over-ear closed back headphones around my neck. The photo has the background removed to a flat gray, and I am yellowed gold toned in Photoshop. Over my shirt and crossed arms is the text:

I interpret differently
I process differently
I create differently

I am #ProudlyAutistic

Below this text, is the emblem of my former advocacy platform, The Autistic Avenger, which is a small drawing of my face and the title of the page.

What I say: I like being Autistic, I'm proud of it!

What ableists think I mean: Autism doesn't affect me in any bad way and it makes me some super smart genius. I'm not thinking about those "who have it worse" or the parents who look after them. I'm only thinking about myself

What I really mean: Yes, autism does have difficulties, I face a lot of difficulties because of it. And whilst I'm aware it's not always easy to look after an autistic person, I have to be autistic for my whole life. So why should I live my life in misery? I'd rather embrace it, speak out for autistic people and help autism become more accepted in society. Because a lot of the issues we face are a result of the ableism we experience from people.

Movie poster for Neurotypicals, which is not a real movie. An extreme close-up of 2 people's eyes, butted as close as their faces will go, with their eyes almost touching each other. The tagline says, The Best Horror Film Of The Year

be honest, how many of us would have been shut away in asylums during the Victorian era for being "disobedient" and "unruly" and "a bit odd," only to escape through a window in our white linen gowns and be mistaken for a ghost

As a therapist, I've noticed that people who grew up walking on eggshells around parents who got angry easily or changed moods without warning often become adults who overthink every word, replay conversations in their head, and assume they've done something wrong, even when nothing's actually wrong. - Nadia Addesi

Growing up I couldn't predict when I would attract misunderstanding, anger, abuse. Doing nothing wrong.

Peers, teachers, family.

This is why I hide away, delete posts, and seek assertive mothering.

I had my first suicide note published by a local college that was written as a sonnet under my dead name. Didn't win any awards, but it was published, and I'm #proudlyautistic

It’s Autism Acceptance Month. I’m autistic, and my hyperfixation on Piccolo from Dragon Ball is likely part of that. Autism shapes how I connect with the worldβ€”and that deserves understanding.

Please try to remember that what they believe, as well as what they do and cause you to endure does not testify to your inferiority, but to their inhumanity.

Many Autistics suffer thru life.

I've lived in unhealthy solitude since that became too much.

That's how intrusive and naive a lot of non-Autistic people are.

This is a social disease on THEIR part, not a medical disease on mine ! ! !
