As a Canadian author in Canada, I receive a small amount annually based on public library use of my book, Stalin’s Gulag at War (UTP, 2019). It’s from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Public Lending Rights Commission. Very grateful #PublicLendingRights #BringingTheArtsToLife
This year a month of groceries thanks to Public Lending Rights. $4500 per person per year is the max. In this way PLR is giving over $14 million to writers whose books are in libraries.
Requests books to buy at your local library. Borrow, it all helps, publiclendingrights.ca #PublicLendingRights
Thank you library users. Thank you libraries. When author earnings are so low (the average writer earns £7k per year) I’m really grateful for this payment.🙏

I see from some Canadian authors' posts that #PublicLendingRights money is on the way (if, like me, you're waiting for the old-school cheque). Thanks, Canada Council, The Writers' Union of Canada, and especially all the libraries and readers who make this possible. Hugely appreciated.
Libraries help authors too. Every loan generates payments under #PublicLendingRights
And authors earn for each borrow under #PublicLendingRights
It’s really gorgeous to get the #publiclendingrights #plr statement detailing library borrowings when it appears in my inbox. 125 Irish library loans in 2023 for Negative Space. It’s not a lot of money (less than a tenner), but it’s a lot of readers. Thank you libraries and library users 📚
