Screenshot of Amazon Kindle page with two books by author sino hane. The books are AI generated covers with the titles A Scent of Malice in the Archives and The Coral Heart and the Siren's Sky. The covers feature a dark green background with AI drawn illustrations of women.
This person publishes about two books a day on Zon/KU. I'm sure some of these AI "authors" are connecting to click farms to elevate page reads too. Folks like this are not *real* author competition, still, they're crowding self-pub authors out of the top 100.

PW has a story about the AALBC's list in today's newsletter. "The BLK Bestseller List filters through Circana sales data for BISAC codes like “Black” and “African American,” Johnson said, as “there’s no data point for Black writers.”

Free for All paints "a portrait that is personal, passionate, and, in the end, unapologetically supportive. By examining the value of libraries in the distant and recent past, Free for All: The Public Library also makes a compelling case about their value today."

The use of AI was upsetting in and of itself, but it's the loss of trust this kind of thing engenders that's the wider problem. It underscores what a lot of us were already feeling: We can no longer trust the media to be honest with us, and maybe they never have been. #PublishingWatch
Graphic with a black-and-white photo of a busy city street with crosswalk in the bottom section of image. Header text reads: “#PUBLISHINGWATCH.” Subheading reads: “Pin to track news at the intersection of publishing, politics, and power.”
Let's try this again. 😅
I created a feed for the kinds of publishing news I had a hard time finding in one place here. This inclusive feed curates news that intersects publishing, politics, and power.
