5 STAR BOOK REVIEW FOR GRACELING BY KRISTIN CASHORE My husband had me read this book a year after we had married. It was one of his favorite books. He always told me about how much he loved the unique magic system. I read it to appease him but ended up obsessing over it so much that I swallowed the rest of the series as fast as I could. (And as an audiobook consumer who commuted and often drove hours on end to visit home, that was quite fast!) I even named my second car after one of the characters (Bitterblue!)
I loved the writing style and the author's skill at making the characters feel real. I loved the magic system in this series. I loved the characters. I loved the adventure. I like to think the vibe is similar to #pulchraarcanum but someone else will need to confirm.

BEHIND THE SCENES Snippet The boy ran through the forest, his breathing hard and his footsteps light. He knew the path was here somewhere—he had to find it. Merlin had told him it would be here. He had trusted the old fool, but now that Merlin was gone, Arthur had to continue the battle. He had to do what was right. He needed to avenge the death of his mentor. “There it is,” he thought as he stopped running. He could see the village border patrol through the trees, the first marker on the path. Arthur raised his fist to stop those he knew were following close behind. “This is it,” he thought again. “Finally, I’ve found them. I’ll eradicate this disease once and for all.”
Here is a prophecy from Part 1. Classic dream sequence, Megara doesn't realize what she is seeing is a prophecy until much later. She doesn't understand the magnitude of the gift the gods have given her.

BEHIND THE SCENES First Written Scene My first sight of her was through some leaves. She had seen me first, of course. I knew she would. She really was beautiful, and I knew it was her because she looked just like her mother. Her hair was long and sun bleached, her eyes the same stony blue of her mother’s. Her cheekbones were high and prominent. Her cheeks more hollow, but the resemblance was still there. Her perfect lips parted and her voice was low and soft. “Who do you think you are,” she murmured threateningly. “Coming near me like this? Do you know who I am?” “You’re Megara,” I shrugged. “I’ve come to take you home.” She laughed. “Oh, but I am home.” I ducked just in time for her whispered spell to fly at my head. I calmly walked over to her, the whole time thinking in my head the thoughts to counteract her curses she threw at me as I walked. I stopped just short of her tree she was behind. Her eyes were wide, but she wasn’t scared. She seemed defiant. “I’ve killed hundreds. How do you know I won’t kill you?” “I just know. You would have tried by now.” She studied me momentarily. “You know me. I don’t know you. Who are you?” “I’m Leopold. I know your mother. I’m going to take you home, Megara.” “Meggy. My name is Meggy.”
This is the first scene I ever wrote for my novel Pulchra Arcanum.
