A query letter is a pitch letter where you are competing for representation and sales. It needs to be written well, follow the exact guidelines of the agent, include what they want, how they want it and nothing else. A good agent will verify and check.

Of course, there's more to #queryletters but not much more. These really are the main things #agents and #editors are looking for. Certainly, there are other details you can add but: Why are they the agent/editor? What is my book about? How is my book awesome? Why am I the person to write it?

The general consensus is that you need all four of these things to have a successful query letter.
