2026 研究資料管理工作坊
Research Data Management Workshop hosted by Dr. Chuang Tyng-Ruey 莊庭瑞 (lab.depositar.io/members/) was a super informative symposium. Grateful for this overview of ecological/social science data management in Taiwan—and first visit to Academia Sinica. 多謝!https://2026.odw.tw/ #RDMW2026 🧪

Digital archeology of film is super important, says Hsu, making historic images and art available for research.

Just this slide showing archival news reels shows how important this is, esp. given Taiwan's history of KMT censorship and information control (also re 台灣史補課 wave right now). #RDMW2026 🧪

Sidebar: Taiwan has a rich history of filmmaking and local cinemas. Many of these small town cinemas have been lost or are ruins hidden in plain sight (follow @spectralcodex.com for more). And Tâi-gí was once a language suppressed by KMT dictatorship, adding another conservation layer. #RDMW2026 🧪

Cultural archives, like individual film reels, share many data management considerations with ecological data, even geolocation of filming locations, theater locations, etc. Big need to preserve records of Tâi-gí / Taiwanese Hokkien films from decades ago: tfai.openmuseum.tw/twmdb

Lots of audience chuckles because these museum specimen collections x taxonomy history headaches are real. Misspellings in binomial names, gaps in data, labels written at different points of a species taxonomic history. How to sort all this when digitizing, and automate fixes. #RDMW2026 🧪
