Team RWBY lies asleep in their dorm at Atlas Academy when an unseen individual opens their door, spilling light from the hallway into the room and casting their shadow onto the floor. The figure stands next to Ruby, who cracks one eye open and says tiredly “Ngh… Hi, malevolent shadowy figure at the foot of my bed.” Ruby then jolts awake out of terror and yells “MALEVOLENT SHADOWY FIGURE AT THE FOOT OF MY-“ She is cut off by the figure, revealed to be Penny, who offers a “Salutations, Ruby”. Ruby, eyes half open, says back “Oh. Hey, Penny. (Gods, you scared me half to death.) What’s wrong? Can’t sleep? (Assuming you can even do that.)” Penny replies “Hypothetically I could, but I really do not want to.” Ruby, now fully awake, sits up and asks “Why not? Are you scared or something?” Penny closes her eyes and smiles, telling Ruby “Oh, Ruby, you make me laugh! Of course not! That would be far too silly to be the-“ Her sentence is cut short by a single hiccup, to which she worriedly hushes herself. After a few stifled seconds, Ruby asks “…Would you, wanna talk about that?”
