I am really disturbed about the changing of the UGA Redcoat Band March-in song by some zealous Georgia fans, replacing the words for their own purposes. ESPN should apologize to the Redcoat Band for their lack of homework and allowing Mcafee to lead the crowd in this disrespectful and irreverent rendition of the long-standing band tradition.
Here are the comments from long time Redcoat band announcer Tom Jackson:
“Gotta get this off my chest. I have not been a Pat McAfee fan and am even less so after this morning. It was disappointing to hear him lead the bastardized Redcoat Band chant with the ESPN Gameday crowd, and of course they ate it up when he used the altered words "drunk obnoxious Georgia fan" where it's supposed to say "Georgia Redcoat Marching Band." There is nothing admirable, or even funny, for our fans to praise being drunk and obnoxious. The fact that this changed wording has gotten to be in such common usage that it lands on a national TV broadcast is so very disappointing. Dawgs fans can do better than this in representing our university with class and pride. And remember, "There's nothing finer in the land, than the Georgia Redcoat Marching Band." Period.”
