Empathy must be Job 1 in a civil society But when empathy comes up against wrongdoing and tyranny, it can be extremely hard to bear. Many of us suffer as we watch our fellow human beings suffer. And so much of it is unnecessary.

It can be painful to feel empathy for those who suffer, but we must acknowledge suffering in order to ​end it.
