When you are on your edit passes you will want to count usage of words, even of the 'be' verb. See what your repetition looks like. Modify and reword to reduce overuse. Go to your dictionary and look up the suspect word and look at its alternatives.

With non-name words the problem resolves with better writing technique.

The rule is, you can type mousetrap maybe twice in your novel. The word is so unusual in prose that your brain exits the text to notice it. These are hard repeaters you shouldn't re-use.
