Endjala denies retirement claims, awaits presidential decision Omusati governor Erginus Endjala has denied claims that he plans to retire from his post this month, stating that his future lies in the hands of the appointing authority. Speaking on Desert FM, Endjala clarified speculation that he would be stepping down at the end of June following the expiry of a three-month extension to his term. “Okay, let me set the record straight. I was appointed in 2015 as the governor for this region, and then my term was renewed in 2019. After serving the five-year term, it was renewed again for me to continue. My contract officially ends on 20 March 2025, meaning I will have completed a full 10-year cycle,” he says. He said president Nangolo Mbumba extended his contract by three months, to allow for a smooth transition under the new administration, with the extension running until 20 June. “Now, what happens after the 20th of June is entirely in the hands of the appointing authority. They may choose to retain you, release you, or reassign you. That is the prerogative of the appointing authority,” he added. Endjala also addressed remarks he made during a recent event, where he suggested it could be his final address to the community as governor. He said the comment was misinterpreted. “I was speaking to the audience there and referred specifically to that context. I said that it could possibly be my last time addressing them as their governor, and I explained the reason: my contract ends on the 20th of June. I believe that is the correct version of what I said,” he said. Responding to criticism that he spoke prematurely, Endjala said: “We have to be realistic. The 20th of June marks the end of the extension we were given. . . it was just a passing remark, it’s not really wrong to mention it.” Endjala, who has served for nearly a decade, said he leaves it to the public to judge his performance, adding that “I have done my best.” The post Endjala denies retirement claims, awaits presidential decision appeared first on The Namibian.
