(There were 100% audio cues I didn’t hear / ignored that I should have focused on, and by not focusing on them, I fucked up big time) #RinPlaysMarathon
#RinPlaysMarathon
This is probably the most I’ve been jumpscared by another player in playing this game #RinPlaysMarathon
Like there’s people who are playing crew fill, looking to PvP, who are suffering because they need to get salvage for faction upgrades, and they do not like playing stealthy or avoiding engagements,
And I’m like “LOL, LMAO” #RinPlaysMarathon
Honestly though, the one positive is finding out that there are people who play this game differently than me, and they are struggling because their playstyles and play experience is not my own,
Which honestly makes me feel better about my play experience comparatively, lol #RinPlaysMarathon
This post brought to you by me becoming a regular poster in certain channels in the official Marathon server, which is something I never thought I’d do, weeks ago
#RinPlaysMarathon
Like, it’s a really good game and I’ve had and heard others have really interesting experiences,
But it is also a game where the default incentives and genre itself are not aligned with what I like to do in games… and yet it compels me. #RinPlaysMarathon
I do think this game is Sith Holocron in nature, in that depending on how one engages with it, it can have a corrupting influence… #RinPlaysMarathon
Truly the funniest thing is doing something altruistic in Marathon, and the voice in the back of my head going “you shouldn’t have done that. You should have taken their stuff. They had really good stuff. That was a mistake.”
#RinPlaysMarathon
Maybe I wanted to prove that I had the (moral) high ground?
Idk… very funny decision, past me.
#RinPlaysMarathon
Downed someone as a Rook, then decided to use a Revive to let them live…
Honestly don’t know why I did that.
#RinPlaysMarathon
“Why not Rook into Outpost?”
Well, there are a few griefer teams that run Outpost, and part of their “fun” is waiting for others to activate Exfil, and then getting into a firefight with them
Which feels especially if it’s being done to Rooks that aren’t engaging in PvP #RinPlaysMarathon
“But Rin, you should be bartering instead of buying!”
Yep, but early game, the same world items that barter for gears with vendors, are also used for faction upgrades which are permanent and super important #RinPlaysMarathon
50 credit weapon*
Anyways, the point is, at this purchase value, if you’re starting from zero items, it makes more sense to spend 2.5k on the second tier Sponsor Kits
#RinPlaysMarathon
Like this is a kit with
- overrun + v11 punch
- basic backpack
- 1 patch kit and 1 shield (green) and 1 mechanics kit
- 2 ammo stacks, 1 for each weapon
- 1 green shield implant
That comes up to 2530-2580 (depending on if you go for a 50 ammo weapon instead of overrun)
#RinPlaysMarathon
Funniest Marathon thing is realizing just how much a loadout “costs” (if you’re using the in-game vendors and purchasing with credits instead of bartering)

UESC (don’t) recognize Rook 🎭 #RinPlaysMarathon
Rook recognize Rook 🤝 #RinPlaysMarathon
Yet another successful exfil! 😎 #RinPlaysMarathon
Apologies for spoilers, I haven’t personally gotten to this cutscene in the game, but I wanted something good to use as my new pinned post / quote on my bio. #RinPlaysMarathon
Screencap from the 2026 video game Marathon. Specifically taken from Cryo Archive’s Intro Cinematic, and voiced by Durandal. The background is green dots on a black background, forming shapes and the silhouette of a face or mask. Caption reads: “Your next steps offer possibilities umdreamt.”
Rook of course is also here, and I don’t really use Destroyer, and I’ve never used Vandal (need to fix that) #RinPlaysMarathon
To add on to this, my current shell usage situations are:
1. Assassin (for completing faction quests)
2. Thief (my personal fave, when I want to have fun)
2. Triage (when I don’t have money for healing items)
3. Recon (when I want to counter other Assassins in my solo runs)
#RinPlaysMarathon
Depending on the shell I’m playing, my tactics might change, but usually I’d probably try to activate any ability that would help me gather info and/or win a fight, as close as possible to the exfil point’s activation.
(Ex: Recon’s Prime Ability, to give me info on surroundings) #RinPlaysMarathon
Ideally, I’d go somewhere else to hide for 30 seconds, then during the 30-40 second period, prepare my run towards the circle, and also make sure the way is clear (and I’m prepared for any surprises) #RinPlaysMarathon
I say this, because being able to look at the timer in the upper left, after I initiate the exfil point construction, and then knowing how many seconds to subtract off of that, is useful knowledge #RinPlaysMarathon
Looking at the timer in this video, it looks like, in this clip, the timer for the extraction point to fully complete itself and generate a circle, is 50 seconds
(Obviously, this value could vary for a variety of reasons) #RinPlaysMarathon
I need to get better at quickly deciding what to do in the loot / inventory screen #RinPlaysMarathon
I’m getting slightly smarter at this game, everyday, which is nice to see #RinPlaysMarathon
Exfil’d with another Runner as Rook! #RinPlaysMarathon
My inability to quickly parse items in complex game UI is my enemy #RinPlaysMarathon
