The #RiversOfLondon would like a word. #Merlin 🧙♂️
@benaaronovitch.bsky.social I might be late to the party, but I (how much can I swear on bluesky?) effing loved #riversoflondon. First book I've stayed up late to read in awhile, first one that had me drunk-off-Macallan ordering the next in line ever.
A digital drawing showing a close-up of Thomas Nightingale's eyes. He's looking towards the viewer, showing the grey of his irises.
The same drawing but this time with a dramatic, silvery-white light emanating from Nightingale's eyes.
Magically glowing eyes featuring Nightingale. Inspired by how @spacecapart.bsky.social draws him! #riversoflondon
My vlog review of STONE & SKY by Ben Aaronovitch, the tenth novel in the Rivers of London fantasy series, but, unfortunately, the weakest.

A pencil sketch of a corner of the Folly's atrium. Molly and Nightingale sit in armchairs next to a table with a lamp on it, both of them mending clothes. On the ground between them stands a sewing basket. Foxglove sits in the foreground, sketching the scene.

“'The land is broken, the world is unfair, and the innocent suffer terrible blows,' said the boy. And then he smiled, and I felt the warmth of him like the sun rising over a spring pasture. 'I can’t fix everything, so I do the best I can.'”

4.25 Stars #RiversofLondon 07 Lies Sleeping by Ben Aaronovitch
Peter Grant is becoming one of my favourite characters in the crime solving setting. He's not perfect, but he's growing in his ability & it's fun to experience. Love Foxglove

15 small drawings of maps, one for each of the first 15 RoL moments. 1: the Navy and Military Club's original location at Piccadilly. 2: Florence (Arizona) in the US, with signs pointing to the too many prisons. 3: the BKA in Meckenheim. 4: the ground floor of the Folly. 5: Waterlow Park, funnily enough there's a building (or organisation?) called Lux there. 6: Casterbrook, at least where I think it might be. I followed the descriptions in Moon over Soho and then just plonked in a field. 7: the Brocken; I wasn't quite sure where exactly the moment takes place so I went with the top of the mountain. 8: this moment is an interview and I wanted that reflected in the drawing, so there's a cassette tape. And the New York Public Library since that's where Stephen works. 9: I spent so so long trying to find Swinfaeder in the Chilterns and I failed. I just put it on the other side of Ambrose forest, so very close to Casterbrook cause that's where the talking foxes seem to have come from. 10: Kite/Parliament Hill. 11: couldn't find Allcroft so I made something up. 12: Fortnum and Mason in London. 13: another interview, this time at the Folly. 14: there's only so much you can do with an ocean tbh. 15: this one drove me nearly to desperation since try as I might I couldn't find appropriate maps of Pitlochry around 1978 but I knew that the hospital has moved since then. Finally I went with a guess ^^
Little drawings for the for the #RiversOfLondon Moments inspired by the covers of the books and buoyed by my love for maps. I went down a few research rabbit holes to draw these and it was a lot of fun! #art

3.5 Stars #RiversofLondon 6.9 Favorite Uncle [short story from Tales from the Folly] by Ben Aaronovitch
Good enough to push the main story along, but still...not a fan of short stories. Aways wanting more. Ugh.

3.25 Stars #RiversofLondon 5.8 King of the Rats [short story from Tales of the Folly] by Ben Aaronovitch
It was okay. Not sure if I've missed something, but it just felt out of left field. I guess the author is allowed this boon, but I was left underwhelmed.

4.5 Stars #RiversofLondon 5.1 The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Granny [short story from Tales of the Folly] by Ben Aaronovitch
