Even with these shortcomings, I still wish more people knew about this comic. As I said before, the story has a lot of potential and I feel it could be revisited and reworked with modern audiences in mind.

What do you guys think? Has anyone here read this comic before?

When it comes to the characters, they are undeniably rough around the edges, but there's not a lot of character exploration that can be done in only two short issues. As it is, the story manages to make the characters feel alive and thought out, and their relationships feel natural.

The story itself is full of potential, which is its calling point. Composed of only two issues, the plot and exposition is to the point, very heavy handed in its use of tropes.

Many things are left unexplored, with an open ending that leaves a lot of room for possible sequels.

A single comic panel. In the foreground, Tom's laying unconscious on a surgery bed while there's a machine lighting his injured hand. The bed is built in such a way that his head is covered or protected by part of its structure. On the left corner all the way to the center there are three skeletal robots, one looking to the side, the one in the middle to the ceiling, and the one closer to the center to the other side. On the right side of the panel, there are two other characters, a doctor/scientist, Duncan, who is talking to Tom's friend, Aki. Duncan says "His vital signs have stabilized. I'll direct the amputation shortly. You'll have to decide on an advanced cybernetic hand of my own design or a more traditional prosthesis right now. Your associate is in no condition to choose, I'm afraid." Aki replies, looking sheepish: "Which is less expensive, doc?" The background is composed of a fucsia line cut by all black with minimal details in red and orange. There's a mustard yellow outline of a machine behind Tom, and the surgery bed is red.

A singular panel of Robin 3000 standing on wreckage, with flames taking all over the background. The Robin suit is composed by a full body leotard that's green with yellow accents around the wrists, waist and calves. The cape is a dark blue, almost black, with red trimming.

The colors are garish yet gritty, sometimes hard to look at, sometimes too bright or too clashing. They are not harmonious, and I feel as though that represents the state of things within this universe: the opulence is only a facade, and everything is covered in grime and suffering.

A full comic page consisting of eight panels. The first one is a closeup of Batman's eyes as he's saying to Tom: "We don't have much time. Better get into the landing beam. Good luck. Remember me." Second panel shows Tom jumping off the ship through the light pink landing beam. Third to seven panels are part of the sequence of Tom landing on solid ground. In the fifth, as he's feet are touching the ground, there's narrating text that reads "It is a descent undetectable by Skulp autosensors. For the moment, Tom is protected." Sixth and seventh panels show Tom with his back towards the reader, already landed, with the beam dissipating into the night sky as he looks up and off panel where the ship with his uncle and mentor, Batman, is. On the seventh panel, it reads: "Batman is not." The eighth and last panel shows a sideways shot of Tom as he looks at the city skyline and Bruce's ship flying directly towards it. Tom says "No sign of the skulp ships. Maybe he'll make it--"

The new design for Robin is meant to match the aesthetic of the comic itself when it comes to this version of the future in which humanity tried to play god with genetic modification, only to fall victim to their own hubris when an alien warrior race came to conquer Earth.

A strip of four consecutive comic panels. In the first one Robin (Tom) and Batman are sitting side by side, operating their spaceship. Tom says "We're in the clear", to which Batman replies "Not for long. They know who I am... where I am. There's no place left to hide." The next panel shows a closeup of Tom's face as he says "Why, uncle Bruce... why surrender?". Third panel is a close up of Bruce, who replies "Surrender? No. I'm just going to die. There's a big difference. My death will give you the freedom to do what has to be done." Fourth and final panel shows Tom from the waist up sitting on a chair by the controls. He's looking off panel towards Bruce, looking mildly dejected. There's a speech bubble with its connecting arrow pointing off panel towards Bruce, and Bruce is continuing what he was saying in the third panel: "Earth needs a new hero. You're elected. Take off the mask."

Taking advantage of the idea behind Elseworlds, Byron Preiss and Steven Ringgenberg (the ones in charge of the script) decided to take Robin to the future—the year 3000 to be exact.

In a comic that's clearly heavily inspired by Star Wars, they bring to life Thomas "Tom" Wayne, Robin.

#Robin3000 comes to be thanks to Elseworlds, a #DCComics label that gave readers the opportunity to read known heroes in brand new settings, as well as giving ground to new characters to take the spotlight if only momentarily.

In this case, the concept of ROBIN as character had its moment to shine.

The cover for the first issue of Robin 3000. It features in the background a futuristic Batman turning sideways to face the foreground while energy rays break through a spaceship's windshield. In the foreground there's Robin, who is sitting askew on the pilot chair while reaching for the ship's controls and he is looking at one of the energy rays that is almost grazing his shoulder. He is wearing a red leather jacket, yellow shirt with the robin symbol and simple brown pants. Batman has a robotic eye enhancement. The cover includes the title of the comic, Robin 3000, and the names of the creative team involved: Byron Preiss and P. Craig Russell.

When talking about the many Robins #DcComics has, no one remembers the curious case that is Elseworlds character Robin 3000, aka Thomas "Tom" Wayne. So now I'm gonna talk about him, as currently the only known fan of this character.
