I hope they do, not because I want to see millions of Russians dead but because I believe the Russian public will finally view this as unacceptable & rise up against Putin's regime if he doesn't cease his insane war.

Notv enough unfortunately. As well as Russia's vast numerical superiority, Putin has shown complete disregard for casualties & the only way it will force peace is if losses become so high it's unacceptable to the Russian public & they rise in protest.

The way that Russian losses have mounted in recent months, this number could easily exceed a million by the end of the year.

It may be a new year but it's more of the same for Russia in Ukraine, with a reported 1,370 troops killed or wounded on January 1st. Still, given they averaged almost 1,600 casualties a day in December, Putin probably considers this good news.

I'm not surprised by this as Russia suffered over 5,500 casualties in just THREE days last month.

The incredible thing is this isn't a record for them, as more than 2,200 were killed in a single day earlier in the month. Time to conscript more meat for the grinder.

This is actually down from recent weeks where they lost over 2,000 a day. I don't put this reduction down to decreasing casualty rates (which is still around 75-90% for most attacks) but a lessening in the number of attacks due to heavy troop & vehicle losses.

FYI Pokrovsk is an important logistics hub so Russia is concentrating their efforts to capture it. One 3-axis assault near the villages of Dachens'ke, Lysivka & Shevchenko saw over 400 Russian troops killed in a single day, reportedly resulting in large numbers of desertions.
