2/2 At CITES #SC78, Canada said although it was identified in the CITES #vaquita #totoaba study as a potential transit hub for swim bladders "we can confirm there are no documented cases or records in recent years" (since 2016, notes the study).

⌛️ The meeting ends at 17:10.
In her closing remarks #CITES Secretary-General Ivonne Higuero highlights key achievements of #SC78 & new topics to be addressed at #CoP20 in Samarkand.
Parties called online/hybrid #CITES Committee meetings "impractical" & "unproductive," given time zones differences, internet connectivity issues, & the value of connecting in person. #SC78 agreed that meetings should only be held online in exceptional circumstances, such as the Covid-19 pandemic.
Noting at #SC78 that a #CITES working group had “exhaustively considered” the definitions of certain purpose codes over the last 2 decades, the Association of #Zoos & #Aquariums discouraged the idea of reopening discussions on them, and suggested focusing instead on codes not yet defined.
