Rory McCann Filmed Scenes As Brasso in ‘Andor’, He Was Then Digitally Replaced Due to an Injury
Rory McCann, most known for playing The Hound in _Game of Thrones_ , had been cast in Season 1 of Andor as Brasso, Ferrix’s exemplary citizen and Cassian’s loyal friend, we learned this week. But after filming a few scenes, he had to drop out of the role, with Joplin Sibtain later taking over.
This was revealed by Sibtain himself on the Star Wars Sessions podcast (via _GamesRadar.com_), who explained that McCann had to exit the series to go into emergency surgery:
> “He just had a limp and he went to work. They did a scan on it and the consultant said, ‘If you don’t have this operated on, you’re going to not be able to walk.'”
Perhaps the funniest bit of the story is that, after he got the role when McCann couldn’t continue, the _Andor_ team digitally inserted Sibtain’s face on top of The Hound’s. He explained it as follows:
> “They reshot it. They did a lot with The Hound’s face, they had to superimpose my face on [him],”
As you might know, this was not the end of McCann’s _Star Wars_ adventure. The actor was cast earlier this year as Baylan Skoll, taking over from his friend Ray Stevenson, who played the part in Season 1 and who passed away right three months before the season premiered, back in 2023. Sibtain was originally going to play a smaller part in _Andor_ before he got the upgrade in screen time.
Sibtain returned as Brasso for the first three episodes of _Andor_ Season 2, which premiered earlier this year on Disney Plus, and which was nominated for multiple Emmys, including Best Drama Series. It won Best Writing for the episode “Welcome to the Rebellion”.
