Last day of #SNAPChallenge25. 3 days, $6/day for food is hard. And Congress wants to cut SNAP benefits. Make life harder for hard working Americans, so billionaires pay less taxes? WHAT? Track budget cuts to SNAP & more here

What can that get you, practically? Rep. Shontel Brown (OH-11) took folks grocery shopping to show #SNAPChallenge25: (she reps Cleveland, OH metro) bsky.app/profile/reps...
Image has the FRAC SNAP Challenge 2025 header and Worcester Food Policy Council logo. It pictures three rough squares from a day planner labeled Tue Wed Thu. Each square contains the day's menu. The meals for the week include: oatmeal w/berries, cottage cheese w/ chives, tuna sandwich, peanut butter toast, naked egg rolls, coffee, English muffin w/ peanut butter & banana, packaged snack, ramen w/ mixed veg, protein shake, sauteed spinach w/ yogurt, savory oatmeal, protein drink, tuna sandwich, snack, English muffin pizza. Beneath is a bulleted list that reads: Spend $6 a day, no "hot meals" Record your experience, #HandsOffSNAP, #SNAPChallenge2025
Image with @FRACpost.bsky.social SNAP header and Worcester Food Policy Council logo. It features screenshots of an Instacart shopping list for Aldi grocery store. It includes ingredients for the menu in the previous slide, and totals just under $70. Beneath it is a bulleted list labeled "Conditions" It reads: * I shopped for 1 week at $7 a day * Some foods will last more than 7 days. * I am diabetic & shopped for my health condition. That includes 3 meals & 2 snacks a day to maintain blood sugar levels, lots of fiber, extra protein, fresh produce * I shopped Aldi's to get the lowest prices, but still spent 2 hours planning meals & forgot to buy onions. Luckily, my neighbor was happy to share one. * I have a year-round window herb garden, so have fresh herbs on hand for cooking.
Image with FRAC SNAP Challenge 2025 header and Worcester Food Policy Council logo. It features a table labeled "The Breakdown". The table breaks out the meals from the 3-day SNAP Challenge menu by ingredient, with the cost of each ingredient. Since I shopped for the week rather than by individual day and many items had more food than I would use for one meal, I divided their cost by serving. The chart shows that I spent $6.21 on Tuesday, $6.56 on Wednesday, and $6.75 on Thursday.
Image with the FRAC SNAP Challenge 2025 header and Worcester Food Policy Council logo. The card is labeled "Final Thoughts" It reads: I'm lucky to live in a state that has generous modifications to SNAP. Because I am 60+ years old, pay full rent, have diabetes, and have medical and utility costs, I qualify for the maximum SNAP allowance. For the purposes of the challenge, I cut my usual food budget by about 1/3, and tracked the calorie count on another chart. If I confine my shopping to foods that keep my blood sugar balanced, my average caloric intake was lower than 1,200 calories a day, far below what my body needs to maintain my health. If I had to live in $6 a day, I'd be forced to rely on unhealthy, "cheap but filling" processed foods, and my health would suffer.
As Congress considers more and more cuts to SNAP, we're looking back at our @fracposts.bsky.social #SNAPChallenge25 post. These cuts will result in poorer health and higher health care costs for many. #HandsOffSNAP

Andy and I participated in #SNAPChallenge25. From Tue-Thu we ate only what we'd purchased for $36, to raise our and others' awareness of the realities of trying to feed oneself and one's family on the avg. $6/person/day SNAP benefit. More in comments. #HandsOffSNAP #FRAC
SNAP returns $1.54 for every $1 spent on it. SNAP supports jobs and businesses. But what does hunger look like across PA? Take a look at these maps and recognize that there is nowhere that is untouched by food insecurity. #SNAPChallenge25 #HandsOffSNAP #PAHungerCaucus @fracposts.bsky.social
#SNAPChallenge25 Day 5 and the last day of my challenge, so this will be a longer video because in the wealthiest nation on Earth, no person should go hungry. But anti-hunger programs are on the chopping block at the federal level. #HandsOffSNAP #PAHungerCaucus @fracposts.bsky.social
I am taking the #SNAPChallenge25 for a week. Here's my grocery list, which totals $41.86 With these ingredients, I'll make oatmeal muffins, veggie chili, lentil soup, each of which will be several meals.
Debbie Weinstein, CHN's executive director, took @fracposts.bsky.social #SNAPChallenge25 to see what $6 a day can get you. A small cheese pizza, a chicken pie, a bag of peas, all frozen- and a yogurt.
Yet, many members on Congress still want to cut it. #HandsOffSNAP

Can you live on only fresh whole foods for only $6/day? #snapchallenge25. SB379 in TX proposes to get rid of 'junk food' for SNAP recipients but doesn't provide funds for the extra cost or have provisions for people in shelters or experiencing homelessness or kids trying to fend for themselves.
#SNAPChallenge25 Day 4 and I have a cold. It's been really hard not to reach for the foods I normally would to help. But it's important to recognize how quickly our health can be impacted when we don't have access to high-quality nutritious foods. #HandsOffSNAP #PAHungerCaucus @fracposts.bsky.social
CHN is participating in @fracposts.bsky.social #SNAPChallenge25: What does $6 a day get you at the store?
For 40 million SNAP participants in 22 million households, $6 per day forced them to make tough choices: between healthy produces, fruits and canned, processed food. #HandsOffSNAP
I’m also participating in the #snapchallenge25, and I’m glad to see a member of Congress doing it. I wish more would so they understand how little you can buy for $6 per person/day.
#SNAPChallenge25 Day 3 had me feeling alone so I met up with a friend for 🍻. As the national conversation turns again to policing what SNAP recipients can buy, we should acknowledge that always being in survival mode is as unhealthy as junk food. #HandsOffSNAP #PAHungerCaucus @fracposts.bsky.social
The average SNAP benefit is $6 a day, so I just tried to buy a week’s worth of groceries for $42.
Meanwhile, Trump and Republicans want to cut SNAP to give tax cuts to billionaires.
Make it make sense.

Think you could get three meals a day with just $6?
Take the #SNAPChallenge25 to raise awareness and push for real change.

A few reflections on #snapchallenge25 so far:
- it's a lot harder than I remembered
- grocery shopping made me more nervous and anxious than I expected
- I'm incredibly fortunate to have a partner to help, nice kitchen equipment, and years of experience cooking
- not getting enough fruits and veg
I've been participating in the #snapchallenge25 since Sunday but have been bad about posting updates, so here goes.
This week, my family of three is limited to $18/day for all food and beverages (the average daily SNAP benefit is roughly $6/day).
Here's how it's been so far:
#SNAPChallenge25 Day 2 already has me feeling the difference in what I can afford to eat with the SNAP budget and what I normally eat. 3 meals/day might be doable but they are far from the high quality nutritious foods we all need to stay healthy. #HandsOffSNAP #PAHungerCaucus @fracposts.bsky.social
#SNAPChallenge25 Day 1 (a day late)! Could you do what the average SNAP recipient must - survive on $6/person/day? Now imagine if it was only $4 - which is what SNAP recipients might be looking at if the proposed $230 billion is cut from SNAP. #HandsOffSNAP #PAHungerCaucus @fracposts.bsky.social
Think you could get three meals a day with just $6? That’s the reality for millions relying on SNAP. I’m taking on the #SNAPChallenge25 to raise awareness and push for real change. No one should have to choose between food and other necessities. #HandsOffSNAP
