What is this proof by contradiction?
We're assuming that the #SSNC is false. That means that every node in the graph has second neighborhood smaller than it's first neighborhood. Then we investigate the overall graph and see if it can still stand.

I told the story about how excited I was with my initial results. The problem is, noone else was doing the problem #MyWay, which made collaboration difficult. This #KnowledgeGraph shows how the #SSNC problem has been #researched over the decades.

#BellmanFord: unlike #Dijkstra's, it can handle negative arcs. But #SSNC isn't just about any paths. It's about paths of length 1 & 2 (1st & 2nd neighborhoods). Does Bellman-Ford address this? #SeymourConjecture #Research #OpenProblem #Math #ComputerScience

Day 19 of #SSNC facts! We're exploring why the #SeymourConjecture remains unsolved. Today, we examine how #algorithms like #Dijkstra #Algorithm handle the challenge of neighborhood analysis. #math #mathematics #compSci #computerScience

DFS is great for cycle detection, thanks to back arcs. But #SSNC isn't just about cycles. It's about neighborhood relationships. Does cycle detection help us solve the conjecture?

0 0 0 0
Post image

Let's illustrate DFS's limitations with #SSNC. Example: x->y->z, y->w, z->w. DFS detects the cycle, but fails to accurately analyze the impact of the back arc (z->w) on neighborhood sizes for the conjecture. #Algorithm #ComputerScience #Mathematics

#DFS is designed for exploring graph depth, not neighborhood size. Unlike BFS, DFS can identify back arcs, but it doesn't solve the core #SSNC problem. Why? DFS, focused on depth, can overlook paths that contribute to accurate neighborhood size calculations.

Day 18 of #SSNC facts! We're looking at the #SeymourConjecture: Does every #OrientedGraph have a node with a second neighborhood at least as large as its first? Can traditional #GraphTheory #Algorithms solve the neighborhood size challenge? Today, we examine #DepthFirstSearch (DFS). #Math

Back arcs are reverse edges that disrupt neighborhood flow. Traversal #algorithms failing to handle them misrepresent 1st & 2nd neighborhoods, crucial for #SSNC analysis.

Let's illustrate: Consider this #OrientedGraph: x->y->z, y->w, z->w. BFS assigns levels correctly, but the back arc (z->w) creates a path that distorts the second neighborhood of 'y' for #SSNC analysis. Back arcs are a problem for the #SeymourConjecture and must be handled.

Let's talk Breadth-First Search (BFS). Level-by-level graph traversal. Seems relevant to #SSNC, right? But will it solve the conjecture? Why or why not? The attached image shows how BFS is supposed to operate on a graph #Algorithms #GraphTheory #traversal

Day 16 of #SSNC facts! We've been discussing the #SeymourConjecture: It asks the questionv Does every #OrientedGraph have a node whose second neighborhood is at least as large as its first? Open since 1990, but why is this still unsolved? Let's explore.

Recent CSP work achieved a constant factor of ~0.3683 for #SSNC. While not the current record (0.3465), it's a valuable step! New methods open doors for future improvements. #MathResearch #Progress #math #research

Day 15 of #SSNC facts. Remember, for a Constraint Satisfaction Problem, we're not looking for a solution, but proving there ISN'T one. If a CSP is 'unsatisfiable', it means certain scenarios that break the #SSNC are impossible, improving our bounds! #MathLogic #Bounds #SeymourConjecture

Unlike optimization problems, #CSPs focus on finding any solution that fits the rules. For #SSNC, we're asking: is there ANY set of neighborhood sizes that break the conjecture? #MathLogic #graphtheory

Day 14 of #SSNC facts! We're diving into Constraint Satisfaction Problems (CSPs). Let's talk about how they are used to tackle the #SeymourConjecture. Think of CSPs as a set of rules we ask a computer to try and solve. #GraphTheory #CSP #math

Dominating set methods, while powerful, have limitations for general #SSNC. Effective for low minimum degrees, but struggle with higher degrees & complex graphs due to #NPComplete complexity. #graphtheory #SSNC
