Saltstraumen, Norway is known for its tidal whirlpool that is created when the outgoing and incoming tides clash with such strength and speed that giant maelstroms produce extremely dangerous displays of the sea’s natural power. The image presents the mountain range above the fjords but does not show the lone bridge to the right that reaches over the moving water. The water is bright blue and calm for this fly over but will soon change under the unseen bridge. Saltstraumen is cherished Norwegian heritage site that draws many a birder, fisherman, and thrill-seeking adventurer. It is also known for Arctic Salt, a local company with inventive—and delicious— salt products.
