Banded hairstreak on a green leaf. The leaf extends into the picture at an angle from the bottom left of the photo. The butterfly is near the end in the middle of the photo and casting a shadow. Its wings are a brownish grey with darker brown spots edged in white all along the outer edges and extending in several rows. At the bottom of the hindwing there is a small orange line, then a slate spot, with a small tail sticking out beside it. Above that there are a couple more orange spots surround by black lines and white lines. The butterfly's head is dark with two vertical white lines. Its antennae and legs are alternating black and white.
