When people speak up about something that's wrong, governments step in and do something about it, and we shouldn't forget that.

Chainsaws and machinery next to tall old trees felled on a snowy morning in the Lemay Forest
We saw big trees come down in the Lemay Forest this morning, and it was horrific. A local St Norbert woman was arrested because she went on site. A mother and Indigenous woman was driven to this action because of the callous way the governments are ignoring the Lemay Forest.

This is heartbreaking. This is a sacred space.

I'll be on CBC radio in Winnipeg on Monday at 6:10 am to talk about government responsibilities on the Lemay Forest, and how they've erred. Federal, Manitoba provincial, municipal elected officials need to correct the mistakes made.
This will be a serious call out.

A highly decorated birdy, with patches of bright yellow, a black eye mask, a white throat, white lower eyeliner, a white chest with black spots, a blazing yellow cap stripe, strong blue grey accents, some slimming horizontal white striping. A yellow-rumped warbler on a branch in spring. Also known as a butter butt.
Migratory birds are back in the forests of #Winnipeg.
📷 April 13/25.
Yellow-rumped warblers eat seeds in spring, allowing them to move north before the insects are out in Manitoba.
Federal law states breeding birds mean forests must not be cut down until after nesting ends.

From Coun. Gilroy:
"I heard loud and clear from residents [...] sharing their deep concern and passion for protecting Lemay Forest.
That’s why the City of Winnipeg is now considering expropriation of this 18-acre river-bottom forest in St. Norbert."
a photo from the Children of the Forest Walk to Save Lemay on March 22nd, 2025. The photographer is standing behind speaker/MC Terri Bousquet who is wearing a white fur-lined parka, a bright yellow ribbon skirt with a floral pattern, and a red embroidered sash. She is carrying a drum in a case by her side. The audience is spread out on the steps before her, with the the Louis Riel statue behind them. The Manitoba legislature and the golden boy loom in the background.
We need to keep up the pressure on decision makers to #SaveLemayForest! Tell them your stories, stress the importance of keeping nature in our neighborhoods, or just remind them their decision will follow them for the rest of their electable days.

Two woman framed by TV news reporters are being interviewed, they look somber. One, on the left, wears an embroidered red parks and red scarf with her long brown hair tied back. The other, on the right wears a blue wool poncho with geometric designs and glasses. Her long dark hair is loose under a floral scarf.
A crowd of people march past a street sign that says "Main Street" with the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in the background. Some carry drums, and others have signs that say "Save Lemay Forest". All of them are dressed for winter weather, some in ribbon skirts.
A crowd of people walk together down a concrete streets, leafless trees hanging over them. Many carry signs that say "Save Lemay Forest". In the center two women hold one another as they walk, one beating a drum and wearing a bright blue ribbon skirt decorated with white paw prints, the other in a bright red embroidered parka. They both have their mouths open in song. The second woman is the same one we saw being interviewed in the first photo.
