House passes bill to end 20-year ban on mining near the Boundary Waters The resolution, which would allow mining of copper, nickel and other metals in the Superior National Forest south of the Boundary Waters, now heads to the Senate.

The Senate is voting today 2/10/26 on whether or not the BWCA should be opened up to harmful mining by a Chilean company. I've been calling @klobuchar.senate.gov and @smith.senate.gov to ask them to vote NO.

House GOP finalizes tweaks to keep megabill on track in Senate Senate Republicans requested the House send over changes to the domestic policy package that would pass muster with the chamber's parliamentarian.

House GOP dropped the mining provision—not to save the Boundary Waters, but to match the Senate version and preserve reconciliation rules.

Still, that means no mining language in the bill. The wilderness stays safe, for now.
