The Williamsburg Bridge is mostly made of steel. It has two steel towers and steel decks which carry cars, subway train traffic, and pedestrians. Only the central span of the deck is strung with suspension cables, which gives the bridge a slightly unfinished appearance.
This is the utilitarian, unsung Williamsburg Bridge.
But for two years it was Sonny Rollins’ rehearsal space.
