After more failed attempts at writing a Chapter 1 that I actually liked, I've decided to try again. I hope it will be to people's liking once it's done.

One thing that's always eluded me is how I would structure a stats system in the case that Scale would be a game. Systems like Splatoon's gear abilities and Hollow Knight's charms seem fitting to me, I guess, but I wanna put a twist on it that still makes sense...

#ScaleSaga was planned to be a game from the very beginning, and as such, I obviously came up with a control scheme for it very early on. It was based on a Nintendo layout, so XBox users swap A/B and X/Y here. So here's some details about how it would function:

The Split Wedges are a pair of landmasses that used to be a part of the Continent, but ended up drifting apart from it due to the separation of the plate tectonics underneath. Now they are two large islands, comparable to, though still larger than, Aeros Island.

Many characters' surnames (Kajiwara, Komatsu, Tanaka, Nakamura, Kobayashi) are real and common Japanese surnames. Despite this, and regions in Scale's world being treated as equivalents to real ones, however, said surnames aren't necessarily indicators of any given character's ancestry.

Vizzie Dyvle was born blind, so she gathers spatial information by using her gazelle ears and horns to sense sounds and vibrations. She's been trained to accurately track the source of a sound, even through the air, in order to become a formidable, spear-wielding soldier.

I have two characters in the works currently that I haven't fully figured out yet.
One is a badger rubrius who is a gunslinger cowboy-esque type, while the other is a whale rubrius that weighs like 300lbs because a human and a cow rubrius (2 total) weren't enough fat bitches.

I'm gonna be reworking what regions correlate to what real-life locations, because I'll likely be adding more landmasses to the Great Face. This is to have more room for spots like South America and southern Europe to be represented.

Eternal spirits exist to inhabit many mortal bodies throughout their existences. As such, they cannot be permanently linked to one like the typical soul. This, in turn, calls for a system of reincarnation, in which the eternal spirit temporarily fuses with the mortal's soul until death.

Absent Fluid is a black, water-like liquid that somewhat resembles Hollow Water and is also found in the Void. Sapient Shades are made from this fluid, in combination with the Void's vacuowarped magic. The Lord of the Void can manipulate this fluid like a water magic user does with water.

When a soul, spirit, or other ghostly being possesses a nonliving thing, the combination is called a golem. There are various types of golem that are classified based on what possesses the nonliving vessel. Here are a few:

Viltrun is a metal alloy specifically designed to react to magic energy, making it an effective detector. It vibrates near magic in a way that disrupts the physical & the ethereal, a property that can be utilized to amplify the power of spell magic coursing through it.

The current generation of Triplet Spirits consists of Lazuli Zephyr, Zaryl Orchard, and Arekai Nakamura. They are the spirits of the Void, the Ages, and the Cosmos respectively, and are all members of the Elite Division, Lazuli being its captain.

The term "planetoid" is used very loosely when referring to the bodies of rock floating around in the Void, since real planetoids are much, much larger than those gray blobs of vacuowarped stone. Void planetoids range in size from sheds to small islands.

The Lower Realm is inhabited by the non-divine spirits of mortal beings. Anything that has a conscience and dies, its spirit finds its resting place here. Certain gods and other divine spirits also reside here, but that's because it's their job. The divine still hail from the Upper Realm.

A remnant of this currency idea exists in Arekai's design, with her expensive gold accessories, her silver belts, and her glittering makeup and hair products. She still looks rich now, but that is no longer the result of accumilating wealth.

Sprine Island and Aeros Island were originally meant to have a currency called Buds. This was later changed, as the widespread anarchy in Scale that was written into the story more recently does not support the concept of currency.

Light magic, despite mainly pertaining to the metaphysical & otherworldly beings from the Upper Realm, has physical properties such as luminescence. This is why it can form lightfiber to use as material for temporary items. Is it blasphemy to use in weaponry? Heresy? No one really knows.

The twelve magic types are split into categories that describe their physical and otherworldly properties. Magic types of the same category act analogously to each other, such as water & stone magic both pertaining to the phyical world, or light & dark magic both pertaining to spirits.

The Lord of the Void, Triplet Spirit created to annihilate the Hollow Wraith, can control Tincture to a degree dependent on their focus. This is because Tincture originates from the Void itself, and as such retains some properties of the Void's own transformative energy.

Nova magic is a unique one of the twelve types of magic, in that it is not an element like water or stone, a combination of elements like toxin, or a primordial energy like light, dark, or phantom. It is instead the magic of matter and its arrangements and properties.

The Ash Wastes are, well, a wasteland covered in white ashes. They border the Sanguine Canyonlands, and are the result of wind blowing the ashes from there elsewhere. The closer on the Lost Hindsight that you are, the more ashes from this place you will see.

Sanguine Canyonlands - A hellish, volcanic mesa with much brighter and redder hues than other canyonlands. With abnormal seismic activity here, lava can often get exposed to the surface air, releasing debris into the air. - Smoke and ash present in these wastes suffocate those who enter the biome without air filtration, and turn the otherwise blue sky blood-red. It is practically required to bring scorch-protective gear in order to survive the heat and volcanic activity here. - Heat-resistant flora and fauna are surprisingly abundant here, despite being isolated from the rest of the world by the ash wastes surrounding this biome. Mollusks, crustaceans, and large insects seem to be the most common animals here, especially around the hot springs that serve as safe havens for the less hardy ones.

These are the Sanguine Canyonlands, a hotspot of volcanic activity in the Lost Hindsight. Its extreme conditions mean that only extremophiles and those that are well-protected can enter. This place is named after its red coloration, resembling blood.

Arekai's hair & face both shimmer in the light due to shiny hair products & glitter makeup respectively. These, along with her golden star accessories & two silver belts, make her stand out like neon-highlighted text, since they make her so reflective that it's quite hard to not see her.
