Today marks the 40th anniversary of the signing of the #SchengenAgreement which paved the way for the realization of freedom of movement in the EU🇪🇺

Freedom of movement of persons is a pillar of the EU acquis, largely contributing to European integration, cooperation and unity🤝

🎉 Today, the #ECJ celebrates 40 years of the #SchengenAgreement! Signed on 14 June 1985, it removed internal borders and paving the way for free movement across Europe. A landmark moment in European integration 🤝

The #SchengenAgreement turns 4⃣0⃣ today. Since its signing Member States have gradually removed internal border controls.

Latvia 🇱🇻 has been part of the Schengen Area since 2007 and, together with 450 million residents, enjoys the freedom to work, study, and travel within other Member States.

🤔 Did you know this week marks the 40th anniversary of the #SchengenAgreement ?

✍️ The initial agreement was signed on the Moselle river by #Luxembourg, #Belgium, #France, #Netherlands & #Germany on a vessel docked besides the village of Schengen, Luxembourg!
