The Last Blossom isn't just a gangster story. It's a sharp look at 1980s Japan, a vanishing Tokyo skyline, and a heartfelt exploration of what truly matters in life. #scotlandlovesanime www.geeknative.com/2...

Anime review: All You Need Is Kill (and a good power suit) Rita is stuck in a time loop, dying daily at the hands of aliens. Read our review of the All You Need Is Kill OVA to see if it breaks the mould.

It's hard to make a time loop story feel fresh. All You Need Is Kill manages it, right up until the final, surreal moments. A worthy watch. #scotlandlovesanime

Scotland Loves Anime Review: Golgo 13 – Dated, Daring, and Dangerous Is Golgo 13: The Professional still a classic? We review the 80s action anime, looking at its pioneering CGI, artistic direction, and chauvinistic plot.

We checked out Golgo 13: The Professional at Scotland Loves Anime. It's a film that's part artistic masterpiece, part 80s action cheese, and part problematic relic. A strange mix. #scotlandlovesanime

Kenji Iwaisawa’s 100 Meters maintains but also reframes his drastic shifts from stillness and mundanity to heightened, visceral rotoscoped energy. Another fiery entry into the latest sports anime canon and a celebration of being alive; the Look Back analogies ain’t exactly wrong.

The Last Blossom - Baku Kinoshita’s endearing style and to a lesser extent a wisecracking balsam bring an eccentric flavour to a small and reserved yet emotionally mighty heartwarmer, that steadily observes sacrifice and the uncertain passage of time, reaching a profound payoff.

London's #ScotlandLovesAnime doesn't appear to offer much in the way of new animation either: it's mostly just repertoires and remasters. Plus, I'm seeing ChaO at LFF. But I will be checking out The Last Blossom, All You Need is Kill, 100 Meters and the UK (theatrical) premiere of Gridman Universe!

The Q&A was pre-recorded because POPREQ is camera shy (same), and all his answers were subtitled but the projectionist left the whole Q&A cropped down to the film’s aspect ratio so we……..couldn’t read the subtitles. Everyone was losing their minds and it was too late to fix this

A Few Moments of Cheers meticulously explores the burden of taking commissions from what could only be a gifted young animator’s viewpoint, although as unique as POPREQ’s approach to 3DCG mocap is, it doesn’t mesh with even a short feature length, and services a generic romance.

Absolute tragedy with the Moments of Cheers prerecorded Q&A where the subtitles for the director are placed so low you literally cannot see even a bit of them #ScotlandLovesAnime

On the one hand, if Picturehouse promoted this London edition of #ScotlandLovesAnime better, these screenings would certainly draw more people in.

On the other hand, good lord, some of these audience members are TERRIBLE

Trapezium - Don’t be famous. Follows a snake who takes advantage of others to achieve her dream, is a little nicer towards her than it should be. A lesson on empathy that holds little value other than morality, although it isn’t not entertaining for how demented it is deep down.

Imagining how spirits would actually integrate into society, Ghost Cat Anzu hardly rejuvenates the “girl meets ghost” genre and struggles to coalesce as a whole, yet the absurd effect it emits in combining realities is something to behold. Deadpan and breezy before they see hell.

Don’t know if the Sand Land movie will ever release here given that the extended ONA is already streaming, so I saw it on the big screen out of respect for Akira. Toriyama’s Tank Girl. Fun! Curious to see the added lore in the show but a 100-minute runtime is all you really need!

Much like Totoro, Totto-chan gets that plot is not integral when you are observing children’s behaviour. Even when it feels fairly overdone, animation like this could not be more perfect for bringing this ADHD queen to the screen; it looks wonderful, and it will surely wreck you.

While The Birth of Kitaro will resonate better with fans of GeGeGe, this dark diversion is not only self-contained but surprisingly visceral and gruesome. If Mizuki could see how this represents his scars from the war and his anger towards the Japanese elite, he would be proud.

It's hard to like the main character Yu Azuma in "Trapezium" because she schemes to use other people to achieve fame. Even the trailer begins with an apology for her actions. #scotlandlovesanime www.geeknative.com/1...

Review: Ghost Cat Anzu UK premiere at Scotland Loves Anime I liked Ghost Cat Anzu from the moment the big goofball drove up on his bike and stared at Karin. I kept faith with it even while Karin was being a pain and Anzu waivered.

Ghost Cat Anzu was, I think, the second best feature-length anime at #ScotlandLovesAnime during the Edinburgh week where it got its UK premiere. www.geeknative.com/1...

Review: Totto-chan - The Little Girl at the Window anime Though it addresses serious themes such as war and loss, the film retains a sense of hope and resilience, showcasing Totto-chan's steadfast optimism and the transformative power of education.

The Totto-chan anime had its UK premiere in Glasgow and then aired again in Edinburgh for Scotland Loves Anime.  #scotlandlovesanime www.geeknative.com/1...

Review: Kuramerukagari UK premiere at Scotland Loves Anime Kuramerukagari is a visually ambitious anime film that embraces a steampunk aesthetic with gusto.

Kuramergukagari had its UK premiere on Sunday at #ScotlandLovesAnime in Edinburgh. It was a gamble by the organisers. www.geeknative.com/1...
