We walked from Parkhead Carnegie (#2 of our #ScottishCarnegies) back into town, and lo, up came a certain football stadium

But elsewhere the £10k is presumed to be the whole cost, then the £27k is a partial contribution? It’s not listed on any other listing of #ScottishCarnegies - maybe @carnegieendowment.org can adjudicate?

Ooh, that’s interesting - which one is it? Can you send photos after your visit? We can add it to our #ScottishCarnegies series!

Inverurie Carnegie Library #9 in our wee tour of #ScottishCarnegies - a tad grey and uninspiring compared to the red or blond sandstone, the curves and ovals of so many of the 2,500 others!

Rather unusual (very) late entry to our wee series of #ScottishCarnegies from @sarahblackhypno.com

A very grey (breeze block?) Inverurie Carnegie Library, Aberdeenshire.

Lovely designs for some #ScottishCarnegies mostly in Dundee - all of which were implemented!

Note the tiny car depicted outside Blackness Library. Some great architecture…

The piece de resistance - Edinburgh’s Central Carnegie Library, still a thriving free public library as Andrew Carnegie envisaged when he endowed 2,500 across the world.

‘Palaces of Learning’, ‘Centres of Democracy’ he dubbed his elegant gifts.

Amongst all the architectural features, heritage and physical beauty of our #ScottishCarnegies series, the quality and sensitivity of the staff stands out.

Here a librarian helping a young borrower feel valued: ‘the youth are the architects of tomorrow’s world’ as Carnegie said!

Mystery entry #5 in our #ScottishCarnegies series - is Broughty Ferry Library a Carnegie?

Some characteristic features, same period, no wastage; but some listings include it, others don’t!

Who can adjudicate please?

The remarkable Coldside Carnegie Library in Dundee, #5 in our search for #ScottishCarnegies.

Huge concave frontage, dramatic red colouring, high ceilings, elegant double staircase - a classic ‘palace of learning’ in an area of need as Carnegie intended!

We visited the fabulous Blackness Carnegie Library in Dundee part of our #ScottishCarnegies tour #2, unusually in upmarket part of the city on Perth Road by the merchants’ houses (Carnegie prioritised deprived areas for his ‘palaces of learning’). He endowed 2,500 libraries.
More tomorrow!

First entry in our series of #ScottishCarnegies #1 after the popular #IrishCarnegies is Maybole Carnegie Library, South Ayrshire.

Started in 1905 to a band playing apparently, famous for its beauty, fabulous doorway, and billiards table! Still a thriving library and community hub
