Crouching selkie. A seal person has shed their seal skins on the shoreline revealing a human body. They look unhappy. Maybe their seal skin has been stolen.

I think this selkie is finished.
The series started when I realised that stolen selkie seal skins was a metaphor for trafficked people having passports stolen - I’m trying to get that vulnerability across.

I think I’ve finished this one. Charcoal, conte & gesso. A1 130gsm paper. Three selkies sit on the shore in front of a washed up horned sea mine. They have shed their sealskins. In legend, islanders whould steal the discarded sealskins and this would prevent the selkies returning to the sea. The islanders would then “marry” the selkies (sounds an awful lot like human trafficking to me, where passports are stolen, and people are sold into slavery).

More selkies in progress. I did have a video but it picked up the fluorescent lights flashing and I didn’t want to make people uncomfortable or induce seizures. I’ll have another go tomorrow in daylight.

Selkies.
In legend, the Selkie women (& presumably Selkie men) would remove their seal skins on the shore, rendering them vulnerable to humans who might steal the skins and stop them returning to the sea. A metaphor for stolen passports, people trafficking, & modern slavery.
