I bought this beautiful hand-colored certificate featuring the #Shichifukujin ( #SevenLuckyGods) having a picnic. #Stamps were placed on it as I trudged through a seven #temple #pilgrimage in #Yanaka, an old neighborhood of #Tokyo, #Japan, on New Year's Day in 1998. It's a #NewYear tradition.
Ebisu is one of the Seven Lucky Gods, representing prosperity and wealth in business and fishing. Often depicted holding a fishing rod and a red sea bream, he is unique among the Seven Lucky Gods as the only one originating purely from Japan. #Ebisu #SevenLuckyGods
Benzaiten is the goddess of everything that flows: water, music, knowledge, and eloquence. Originally derived from the Hindu goddess Saraswati, she is one of Japan's Seven Lucky Gods (Shichifukujin), blending Buddhist and Shinto beliefs. #Benzaiten #SevenLuckyGods #JapaneseCulture
